  • Driver injuried

Hey guys we have one of our family badly hurt from Desoto Speedway. Does any one want to help me help Greg Roberts. He has extentive injuries and has had several surguerys so far and probably more to come. I don't think he has insurance and he has a long row to hoe. Among his injuries is a broken left leg,a shattered left knee, a badly broken hip along with a broken arm. There has to be a wheel chair ramp built to his house, not to mention all the medical bills. I have been involved in this sport over 50 years and I have had others in our racing family help me. Now its our turn to give back. If you haven't been helped stay around a few years and you will. Even a buck is more than he had before it was given. Now every one that give anything, as little as $1 will get a chance to have a video of any race program I have in my possesion. Including back to 1983, if I still have the master. Let gregs plight touch your heart, he is going to have a long road to recovery. Let him know that the racing community cares about their own. I don't suppose we can pay every thing any way but the effort, if nothing else will encourage him.
    Thanks in advance Bob......

Seriously guys, the last time this was brought up it was time to cue the crickets, because the entire thread fell silent. A racer is a racer, dirt or asphalt. We should help all of them! Nothing against the racer hurt at Desoto, but another racer is hurt even worse and his family needs help. Shawn Pawlak, a 4 cylinder bomber driver from Putnam County Speedway, was seriously injured on Saturday night. How about we help BOTH drivers? I see nothing wrong with that and I hope others see it the same way.

        BJ's right

We can help both. BJ Can you handle the one at putnam? I'll handle the Desoto driver. If you send a check here make it out to Greg Roberts.
My address is 11171 MJ Rd. Myakka City Fl 34251. I have an Idea if it sounds good to every body. We could start a fund at a bank for injuried drivers in Florida. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would be willing to pay into it myself kinda like insurance. God forbid I could be run over in a pit somewhere.
My golf cart has been run over multible times. Just a thought. I remember you said something about this driver at putnam and I forgot. There is absolutely no reason why we can't help him too. He also is a member of this family. What are his circumstances BJ. I remember hearing about it but no particulars. Thanks Bob.........

Jerry, almost forgot. Its not important how much. Its the love for the sport and the caring for our brothers that matters. Bob......

I'll try and get updated info. Last I heard he was still at Shands in Gainesville, was in a halo thanks to a broken neck, and had some other issues as well. Teh folks from PutnamSpeedway (Mike Budka) have benn visiting with him daily. According to what I've been told, his family is going to be hurting while he is unable to work. He is the father of at least one young child. I know there is a donation thread going at FloridaFlagstand.com if anyone wants to look. I'll post more info, or get someone to post more info, as soon as I can get it.

The donation page set up for Shawn Pawlak and family is at www.slkmotorsports.com.
