  • Eastbay's revised UMP Modified Schedule

February 1, 2014 – Tampa, FL – 5:00 pm – Due to the uncontrollable amount of rain over these past few days, UMP Officials, East Bay Officials, Drivers and Teams got together and held a meeting and were all in favor of racing over the next three days. East Bay Officials will continue to work on the track throughout the night to make sure that the track is in racing conditions for the next three nights here at “The Clay By The Bay”.

The new revised schedule is as follows: Sunday Grandstands will open at 11:30 am with hot laps to begin around Noon and the ACTION to begin around 1:00 pm. Tomorrow’s event will be paying $1,500 to win for 25 Laps. Monday and Tuesday will be for $1,000 to win also for 25 laps with Grandstands opening at 5:00 pm with hot laps to begin around 6:00 pm and the ACTION to begin around 7:00 pm.

They sure did try to make that track work yesterday, I'll give them a lot of credit. But after multiple mechanical breaks and one huge flip and roll during time trials they decided the surface was just too far gone. Ten cars decided to not race at all and only 20 of the 31 entered were willing to try to put down a time.

Well got to redo the schedule again. East Bay tired to do two features last night, but got fogged out during the first feature.

However it was pass halfway and they called that one done with Kyle Bronson winning it!

Today is double features for the UMP mods and the races start at 6PM.

Let's hope mother nature likes us tonight!

Been a tough start to Speedweeks!! If it doesn't rain, you still end up in the clouds!! The forecast for next Wednesday at Volusia looks good... warm but not hot and no showers predicted until Thursday... Gotta get my Sprint Car fix and hang out with Schrader awhile...

If I can sneak out a little early, I'm gonna shoot down there.

Will probably be a bit late, so I hope they don't start exactly on time...

Got my wish. Got there at 7, and only missed a single heat race.

The track was more suitable for Moto-X, but the action (when they could run more than 3 laps at a time) was excellent. Drivers from 13 states, 8 heat races, and 2 features.

Looked like the track itself caused much of the trouble, and a bunch of broken suspension pieces kept things very interesting. Seemed like every leader in the 2nd feature had trouble.

Dale Matheson (sp?) in the 9 took the first feature, Kyle Strickler won the 2nd, taking the lead with 1-1/2 laps left.

For the first Speedweeks race that actually went the full distance, it wasn't a bad start to The greatest 3 weeks of the year. Well worth the trip down at the last minute.

It was some good racing last night, track was rough with the new clay and all the weather last week they never got the good weather to work it in.

Should be a lot better by this weekend for the crate latemodels.

That last race was the best; however, Kyle Stricker push his teammate up and out of the groove to win the race.....Oh and his teammate got into the wall also and broke/bent his right front A-arm.

He did finish the race, but loved to been in the pits to see what both drivers had to say.

What's the old saying....I'll wreak my mom to win the race, I guess that goes for teammates too.

The racing was good last night. Man the track conditions were rough tho. It is expected with the amount of moisture in the last week. My question is what happened to the mini sprints thought they were scheduled also.

The mini's left after Sunday was cancelled. Most of them had been there since Wednesday and i'm betting they had to go back to work.
