  • Citrus is back!

A great night of racing with a strong field of Sprints.

  • #2
Yes, was a great night of racing at CCS. Absolutely fantastic to see #59x Becca Monopoli get the 35 lap Truck win over Dustin Dunn #4 & #7 Dylan Martin. Only 6 trucks took the green but a wild first couple of laps before the race settled down. Becca held her own and did an outstanding job. Sprints had 26 on hand with 24 taking the green. Outstanding 30 lapper. 5 cautions for spins. Aaron Pierce #22, Indiana driver took the lead around lap 22 from 2nd place finisher #21 Jimmy Alvis, Sr, who had taken the lead around lap #3 from pole sitter #11 Joey Aguilar. IMO the best run of the night was Mickey Kempgems #5 who had a fantastic run. Had worked his way to second when coming out of 4, he was hit by Pierce, who said his brakes locked up and it was unavoidable, spinning the 5 and sending the 5 to the rear. Kempgems then drove from 20th spot to a fourth place finish in six laps. At the finish line Pierce did walk down to Kempgems and explained the incident to Mickey. . All ended well. Great race for the Sprinters. 5 Sportsman cars saw the #13 Aaron Williamson take the win. Mod Minis had Clint Foley #7 return to his winning ways. Mini feature went to Shannon Kennedy #20 & Raymond Vann won the Pro Hornets feature. Results were posted nice & early Sunday morning.

      Headed south

Other than the sprints I can't imagine 6 -8 cars being good racing, but I wasn't there, There was alot of cars and some good racing at Showtime. Glad you had a good time.

Hay denman I was with the 5 sprint car last night, and we got robbed, if we didn't get are spot back both partys involved should of been sent to the rear, OH well just a racing deal, dam shame the superstar from indiana had to dump us to win, but well worth the ticket to watch mickey come from the back. Thanks to stan butler for putting in the time to try and make this non wing deal work, if not for the sprints showing up last night the show would have been weak, JMO

Yes owm61, I agree. As a fan sitting there watching, I couldn't understand why both cars were not sent to the rear . I also believe #5 was robbed. Really great run for Kempgems. Yes, the remainder of the show was on the weak side. Mod Minis had 9, Mini's 8, Sportsman 5, Trucks 6, Pro Hornet 6 for a total of 34 cars for 5 divisions. Sprints were well worth the price of admission. The racing was pretty good in the other divisions as well. Now as to the future of CCS, who knows. One thing for sure the car counts have to rise. Possibly the bad weather week kept some cars away. Still as said a very enjoyable night of racing. John Berti did a good job announcing and kept the fans well informed. Only issue was not being able to hear the Sprint car starting lineup for the feature. Some other improvements at the track are in definite need and hopefully as the new management becomes aware of the issues the changes will be made to return this track back to the status they once held. Time will tell. Now with the PASS race being cancelled at NSS next week I have a toss up for Saturday....Mods at A'Dale on Saturday or a return to Citrus for the Late Models......Florida action heating up, it's been a long winter.....

You guys got that right. It was a grood night of racing. And friendly it is. Gary stopped by and talked to my driver and thanked us for driving all the way up from south Florida with the chance of bad weather. Rick did a great job keeping things rolling.

Denman, it was good to see Becca get the win(if we couldn't) in the #59 truck. She has been getting faster all year. Good job girl!!! We sat on pole in the #4 truck with a pretty strong run and after Rick talking to all the drivers we all decided to invert the whole field and cut the lap for the sake of the show. And it was exciting the first 10 laps. Good clean driving by all. 3 wide racing. Only one spin with no contact. An oh yah. Rick and Gary didn't cut the purse either. Good job guys.

The sprint car race was awesome. Filled with talent. own61, I didn't see your deal but you put a hell of a show on coming from the rear up into the top 5(I think) in the last 10 laps or so. Sorry about you racing luck last night. Also I was keeping an eye on the rookie 15 yr old Ty DeCarie. Ty did a great job in the #41 car staying out trouble steadily work on the competition and picking they off when the time was right. Putting a last lap pass on the outside on Shane Butler(I think) finish a solid 8th place.

            Great job by all!!!

In sprint car racing if you are the yellow flag incident or have to be restarted you are put to the rear.

We had a great season's opener at Citrus County Speedway last night. The grandstands were filled to capacity. When the sprint cars come to town that's when fans show up in strong numbers.

Aaron Pierce, 2013 USSA Sprint Champ, came all the way from Indianapolis, Indiana to race with us and came away with the win in the 30 lap wingless sprint car feature. Jimmy Alvis, Sr. was second with Joey "Ace" Aguilar third. The wingless sprints will race the first Saturday of each month.

Other winners were: Pro Trucks - Becca Monopoli, Modified Minis - Clint Foley, Sportsman - Aaron Williamson, Mini Stock - Shannon Kennedy, and Pro Hornets - Raymond Vann.

Are you a fan of the Super Late Models? If so, I want to see you at CCS this coming Saturday as the SLMs head the card with a 50 lap feature. Mod Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure/Street Stock Figure 8's, and Fan Participation Racing will also be a part of the competition that night.

I only met Aaron Pierce one time.... When he had brought his SLM to NSS. In the short 2-3 minute conversation we had, he said he HAD to bring the Sprint Car next time. Especially NSS.

Granted, Citrus and NSS are nowhere near the same.... but Aaron could run anywhere in the country he'd like to. The fact that he loves hauling down here, should be a 'feather in the cap' for any track or series he chooses to support. He is a great addition to any track he goes to, and if Fla is lucky, he'll continue to come down and add a bad-ass contribution to the show.

He didn't tow down. Aaron rented a local car for the night.

When I interviewed him after his win I asked if we would see him race at Citrus County Speedway again, he said yes. We have the non wing sprints as a permanent part of our first Saturday of each month race program. It will be interesting to see if Aaron will be in attendance in March. My hope for the fans is that he will.
