  • MARC Times Racing News closes down--

Another weekly Racing Publication has ceased operations as of yesterday.
The MARC Times Racing News has gone under, said Mr. Beebe, the owner.

I remember 30 years ago, when I was a little snot-nosed, zit-faced dork (still am, thank you very much) selling the Papers in the stands for .50 cents a copy, and made a dime profit on each one sold; made about $5.00 dollars profit, enough to get me into the next Friday Night Races, which at the time cost $3.50-- and enough for a coke and a hot dog, with my not-so-happy dad dropping me off at the Track, and subsequently picking me back up at the Raceway at midnight.

Checkered Flag Racing News, which I had also received, went under a couple of years ago.

The peak of Weekly Racing Newspapers was about 18 years ago, when there were about 30 of them, plus or minus. Now, there are only about 11 remaining.

Support your Local Racing Newspaper, before (you know....)

I still keep my subscription to Area Auto Racing News going so I can stay in touch with all of the goings on with my beloved Pennsylvania Posse and to a lesser extent the dying DIRT Modified series. I am always amazed at the sheer volume of content they continue to cram into a weekly newspaper. I barely finish one before the next one shows up on my door.

Area Auto and Gater Racing News still blow me away for the same reasons Tripper mentioned. The content is huge, at least a dozen columnists every week, plenty of advertiser support to foot the bills, literally hundreds of photos in each issue, many of them in color... it's just an all-around encyclopedoa for a racing sponge like me.

It also amazes me looking at the car counts for weekly shows. Dozens of tracks, and several divisions have cars that don't even make it into the Feature races. 40 cars a week, in each class is not uncommon at all. 100 cars in 3 classes is a regular occurance. We're lucky to get 100 in 7 classes.

By the way Tripper..... NEVER throw your old issues away. I'll buy every single one of them from you if you don't keep them yourself. The older the better too.

Dick and Kathy Beebe are the kind of people that made motorsports print media what it is today. Unfortunately its too easy to get your racing news online. Dick's health continues to worsen while Kathy eeks out their living from the apparel trailer. I just hope we will see them in Feb. @ Volusia. If you go, make sure you stop and see em.

Nice to hear. Good link, and subscription information.

Take a peek at the original post by myself; just shy of a year ago.

It was pulled up, and I don't know how many pages deep it was down from last year, but it must have been alot.
