Why would you not just use the rules the track already uses for the sportsman class. This smells of a once tried rules package that was going to save the sportsman class at Desoto. My bet is you will get 7 cars that show up for this race with this rules package. Does anybody have any payoff info for this late model sportsman race?

Patrick, this is what caught my eye:

"**Above rules are for the PASS race scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2014."

Are they planning on running the "Florida Sportsman" cars *in addition to* a PASS race, or are these rules *for* the PASS race?

I read it as these date the rules for the "outlaw late model sportsman race. Basically those rules only mandate cubic inch of the motor, the rest of the motor rules are run whatcha brung, as long as it has a 2 barrel 4412 carb. NewSmyrna just had 21 cars 3 weeks ago at the red eye, why mess with those rules. The class is becoming more healthy than it has been in years, I just don't understand. I have a hunch I know where the rules set came from, but I will not speculate.

When I spoke with NSS about the PASS event, I was told they were working on rule package and it would be for that event only!

Apparently, the word 'Outlaw' is being mis-used again, as one of the first rules is "no nose or side panels/wings".

The original origin of this word when applied to racing meant pretty much 'run whatcha brung".... and they slap a whole rule book on top of it.

Last true Outlaw show I saw was at East Bay in 2012 where the Late Models were allowed to slap on any nose piece they wanted, and plexiglass as tall as would fit in the trailer to get it there.

Nothing "Outlaw" about a class that dictates what the appearance is gonna be.

                  Proof read the rules

[I think there was a few things left out. I bet it was going to say that Tube snouts need to be 1400 rightside and 55%, and stock clip cars are 1250 L/S at 57%. If you have a 3050 lb car,you are pretty close to that, with no changeQUOTE=adietz;140310]THE FOLLOWING RULES ARE DESIGNED TO EQUAL THE PLAYING FIELD FOR THE SUPER STREETS AND LIMITED SPORTSMAN AND MUST PASS TECH INSPECTOR “PASS” OFFICIAL.

                    I think that....

I think that they are just trying to make it so that the Florida guyes could run with them if they want to. YOU CAN RUN YOUR 650'S AND 450'S THAT YOU HAVE,YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY FUEL,JUST SHOW UP.

Not sure what you mean by 'their guys'. The PASS race is for full-blown Late Models, not any form of Sportsman. And to my knowledge, they have no Sportsman cars TO bring.

I'm not getting this at all....

Mr. W, while yes I think I would be competitive, I will not support a one off outlaw show where I have a huge opportunity to be out gunned, when I could make major changes to a new car to maximize my car to these outlaw rules. I just won't make the changes for something that in my opinion isn't going to be well supported.

Jerry they are posting these rules for there sportsman race, they are trying to use the same rules Star speedway in Maine. They have abandoned the weekly NSS sportsman rules for this so called outlaw sportsman race.

Attn ADIETZ: It seems you must be from PASS, as you post on their behalf on this site quite a bit. Please reconsider these "Outlaw Late Model" rules for this event. It will greatly diminish your field. There's an old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". This applies in this case. The last "Sportsman" race under New Smyrna rules was a great success. It drew nearly 20 cars for an event that not many knew about. This rules package you are implementing for this race has been tried before in Florida and has failed miserably. I fear if you keep this rules package you will be lucky to draw 7-8 cars. That's a far cry from 20. While this rules package may work in New England, when it was tried here it was an experiment in failure and teams stayed away in droves. Unless you plan on having 10-15 "Super Streets" and "Late Model Sportsman" travel down from Maine and New Hampshire, these rules will not work. I may be going out on a limb, but I am guessing that a person by the name of Jim Daley has asked you for this rules package and may be even offering you money to add to the purse. He does this because he owns a fleet of cars that he races down here while "snowbirding" in the winter. The problem is that nearly all of these cars are illegal under the rules of most tracks here in Florida. These "Outlaw" rules are the only circumstance under which his cars "magically" become legal. I'd hate to see this event not be what it could be because of a poor decision based on influence from someone with a personal agenda. The PASS tour has some great drivers and puts on a great show. I have witnessed many PASS events in New England and would love to see the "South" tour make New Smyrna (or other Florida tracks) a regular stop. I think the fans would love to see this great Super Late Model racing series on a more regular basis. Please reconsider the "Outlaw" rules, I assure you that the local Sportsman drivers will not support this event anywhere near what they would a regular "New Smyrna Sportsman Rules" event. I wish you the best and good luck on presenting a great event!
