Don't be so quick to flaggelate yourself old man, you might be on to something here. Chuck Bown (who performed miracles in Bobby Allison's car) did drive the Nescafe Pontiac in the Busch series, but also did drive for Tex Powell in the Cup series at that time, sponsored by...Kellogg's!

Is that the answer you were looking for Frasson?

So what else do we have left up for grabs? Skoal? I was way off on that one...because it's the original Stanton Barrett.

Here's the answers I was looking for, but again, I can't be positive I'm right either:

The original Skoal Bandit, was Stan Barret in the #22 car, co-owned by Burt Reynolds among others. Hence the "Bandit" part of the team name. Harry came along as a team driver to help get the whole program up to speed.

Sunoco was first with Charlie Rudolph, a NY Modified racer. He is the son of Jim, an accomplished racer of his own, and the father of Erick who is quickly making a name for himself in the Northeast.

Mark Martin first came South with Apache Stoves on the side of his cars. I think Apache also made an appearance with Dave Marcis.

Kellogg's came to Atlanta with Chuck Bown & Tex Powell when they were testing the Nascar waters.

Interstate Batteries (Powertron) was with Stanley Smith. A lot of people remember the Talladega crash when Jimmy Horton flew right out of the ballpark, but not many know that Stanley had severe head injuries in the same crash, and almost didn't make it. Fortunately he is back, and recently ran at Lakeland.

Alan Kulwicki first showed up in a Bill Terry owned #35 with Quincy's Steak House colors. After missing Daytona, and Richmond had qualifying rained out (field lined up by points, and he had none after Daytona), he decided to go on his own. I believe this was the only time Alan ever ran for an "owner" besides himself.

Texaco... I could be wrong about this, but I do remember Janet Guthrie running a White & Red Texaco car, possibly #82. This was after the Green & White 68 Kelly Girl cars.

Texaco Diesel... again the details are sketchy, but somewhere I have a picture of that car, and I'm pretty sure it was Jeremy Mayfield. He was driving for the Sadler Brothers team (Earl & Check... not Hermie & Elliott) in the ARCA series at the time. The Sadler also entered a handful of Cup races a year with their ARCA stuff. I think Jeremy was only 17 at the time.

Piedmont Airlines was with Richard Childress and his new driver Ricky Rudd, when Dale Earnhardt left, took Wrangler with him, and wound up in the Bud Moore 15. This might have been the only stretch that Dale ever drove a Ford product.

Pepsi Cola... I was thinking Tiny Lund, as I saw him in 1970 with that sponsor, but I believe AncrDave schooled me on this one. I now go with Roy Tyner. Another piece of history about Roy Tyner is that he was the subject of the Jim Croce song "Rapid Roy, The Stock Car Boy". I also heard his fast lifestyle wound up getting him murdered along the way by someone who felt Roy did him wrong. The detalis of that story I don't recall.

Publix was on the side of Junie Donlaveys #90 at Atlanta when the Ford Motor Company wanted to give some seat time to one of their "protoge's", a Desert racer named Robby Gordon. Junie was called on a lot of times by Ford to give their "factory" guys a chance. Others included Kenny Schrader and Dorsey Schroeder.

Dupont will forever be linked to Jeff Gordon, but the first driver was Ricky Craven in the Busch series, driving a Purple #99.

Jasper Engines, one of the largest engine rebuilders in the country, first appeared with Ken Ragan, father of David Ragan. He ran some ARCA & some Cup races with the #74 & #77 cars.

Thanks for playing along. If you want more, let me know!

                  Here's one...

                  Pop Cola

                  And another....

                  Truxmore...

                  A few more....

                  Olympia Beer
                  Carling Black Label
                  Kar-Kare
                  Simoniz (wax)
                  Coca-Cola
Terminal Transport (big in southern late models but has been a few WC cars)
                  Kodak (not Kodiak lol)
                  and for that matter Polaroid
K & K Insurance (a host of drivers but who was first)
                  Texas Pete Chili (Busch series)
                  AC Delco
                  and an oldie....Holly Farms

I really don't know the correct answers to all of these but Jerry's little game was fun. So have at it, gang.

Pop Cola sponsored James Hylton (He won at Talladega in a Pop Cola Torino)
Truxmore was Junie Donlevay's long-time sponsor and was on the car when Jody Ridley won the only race for the team at Dover... Dick Brooks and Sonny Hutchins (among others) also wheeled Truxmore cars for Junie...
Simoniz was on the independent Dodges Dick Brooks drove..
Coca-Cola sponsored Bobby Allison in the early '70s...
The first driver for K&K Insurance was Earl Balmer followed by Bobby Issac and Dave Marcis...
Texas Pete sponsored Joe Nemecheck's run to the BGN championship..
Holly Farms was Junior Johnson's long-time sponsor...

                      Dislaimer

I meant everyone except Dave Westerman could play.

That guys a friggin' racing history database. Just kidding Mr. Westerman.

Of course I remember Pop Cola being on James' car back then but I think they actually started with somebody else....still looking for that reference....

I rmember Bill Dennis driving the Truxmore Ford for Junie too......he was an ARCA or Sportsman champ, wasn't he?

I think Brooks was able to pick up Smoniz after he won the Rookie award....

I remember seeing Coke on someone else fender but not in the same prominence as they were with Allison. But wasn't that really Junior's WC deal? Although I imagine the short track cars were all Bobby's.

There was another team before Nemechek's, I think, that had Texas Pete. Keep wanting to think it was Bobby Labonte...Does that sound right? I dunno.

                      Here's a famous one.....Purolator.

Olympia Beer was Ray Elder from the West Coast

Simoniz also sponsored a Daytona effort for Tom Sneva (or was it Pancho Carter?)

Texas Pete... was Mike Swain before or after Nemecheck?

Carling Black Label... sponsored the team cars of Cale Yarbrough in the 11 and Canadian Earl Ross in the 52. Until last year when Montoya won, Earl was the last foreign racer to win in Nascar, and that was in 1974.

Kodak was first on the Morgan-McClure cars with Rick Wilson driving

Polaroid was either Shawna Robinson's #35 or Tommy Ellis when he drove the Cooper 56 in the BGN series

Purolator.... Hmmmm, must be a trick. I sure want to say Pearson, but I think thats what you WANT us to say!

Terminal Transport (or was it Truckng?) was with Darrell Waltrip in his rookie year, Brown #95. I think Terminal Transport is the one famous for the black and neon green cars driven by Jack Sprague, Rich Bickle, Freddie Query, Clay Rogers, Ernie Irvan, Bobby Gill and others. I believe the Waltrip connection was a completely different group... but damn close in name!

Kar Kare and Holly Farms were each on Cale driven/Junior owned #11's

Just remembered the AC Delco car (s). Morgan Sheppard drove the 97 in Cup, owned by Tom Winkle, and Mike Alexander drove a self-owned 84 in BGN.

                                Evinrude... yes
Bull Frog.... you might be right. I was thinking Buddy Baker, but Lake Speed ran Hoss Ellingtons #1 with Bull Frog possibly before that. Danny Schiff was involved with Bull Frog, and later became Bakers partner on the 88 car.
Crisco... Brett was after the one I'm thinking about. HINT... the answer is closer than you think!
