    Florida weather...

"If you don't like the weather, wait a minute"...
Last week at CCMP it was raining all around the track. In fact parts of the property ...we never got a drop on the track and enjoyed some wonderful racing. Its a crap shoot... Hope you get to enjoy the race... ;-)

      Looks like 50/50

The last race I went to up there, they said no more racing on Sundays and because of the Summertime temps they were going to push starting times back to 8 pm. Just before you leave I'd look at the weather radar and usually if it's raining in Waycross, it's probably moving east to GIS. Here's the radar I like the most.

I'd love to go but just to late getting home and my eyes aren't as good as they once were. It's out in the middle of nowhere so no curfews, don't expect it to be over till about 2 am.

I probably shouldn't comment, but I am. That's ridiculous! 4AM? How many hard core fans sat that one out? Sorry, but if I bought a ticket and the race still hadn't happened at 2AM, I'd go home and remember never to come back. It's a race, not a slumber party.

My wife and I clicked on the internet after the truck race ended on TV and found that the first heat races were just beginning. This was at around 11PM, and they still had a full slate of divisions scheduled before the late model feature. I looked at my wife and told her how happy I was that we had decided not to try and go up there. To drive that far and stay that late to watch it, then try to come home, would have been downright dangerous and exhausting.

No offense to Golden Isles or the UDLMCS, but my choice would be to stay home. It just ain't worth it.

            Mr. Calvin
I went to GIS yesterday and you are right, when 2 AM comes it is time to leave and that is just what I did. Still had nearly 2 hour drive home. They were running support classes when I left which was 3 too many. Will think twice on the next trip to GIS!

Once you get out of Florida to other tracks they finish races PERIOD. (Nothing against Florida tracks but the fans there are not used to it either) I have been at MANY races when the sun came up and have even seen normal saturday night shows finish at 5-6am. Tha Golden Isles fans are used to it and I bet there were still quite a few in the stands when it finished.

I understand completely about finishing races. I used to live in SC and went to many late nights at tracks up there before curfews were imposed and all of that changed. But 4AM???? Sorry, but that's asking far too much from the fans in my opinion.

                    Hey youse guys

I just got back from GIS and you are all right it was marathon. I can remember some late nights like this when I was young but it was hard on this old man. THat said, I am glad we finished. we would have had to go back for the make up and thats a long way to travel. Rob and I left the track 15 minutes to 5 after taking down our banner for the series. we were in our hotel and climbing into the bed at 5:15 am. We got up at 9:45 and tok showers and headed home. A side from the late night it was a good week-end. Some awesome racing. We ha 53 cars, 5 heats 3 b-mains, a consi and the feature race. We started 30 cars. Man what a sight 3 and 4 wide racing at times. Gis is a good track and a bang up facility. They treated us like royality. Well deserved I might add. LOL! I thourghly enjoyed the week-end.
I'd go back in a heart beat. Maybe the decision to race wasn't the best choice but it was the one they made. BJ you talking about fans leaving< some with small kids did, but most stayed til the bitter end. i was taping kind of in the middle of the stands with fans all around me and I really did'nt hear anyone complaining. I suppose some did but I didn't hear them. It was some very good racing Bob........

With the price of gas and the weather like it was, Frankie probably made the right decision to try and get the race in. If he didnt try people would have been upset because he didnt try hard enough( last superbowl race is a prime example). But there were a lot of people from out of town that paid a hefty gas fee to get there waiting at the gates to see what was going to happen. Alot of cars there waiting to race. Looks like one of those danged if you do danged if you dont.

I'm not going to say that the wrong call was made, only that the racing went far too late. This is the reason I respect the way Mike Peters does things at Ocala. Mike makes the call EARLY if at all possible, thus saving fans, racers, employees, and anyone else, time, money, and effort. 3PM is the magic hour at Ocala on most races. If radar indicates that rain is coming, or if the forecast calls for widespread rain, then Mike calls it off. Yes, Mike has missed it more than once and Ocala Speedway has sat empty on a beautiful evening, But those mistakes are worth it, especially when you have racers coming long distances in order to race. Its a matter of putting the racers and fans FIRST, and that deserves respect!

I think one reason the decision to wait it out was made was we had a large #of people that had come a long way and had motels. We as a series were glad to be able to get in our racing. None of our racers expressed a desire to pack it in. As for the fans, they had a special thing for them, their kids any way, at intermission. I know why would you take a intermission this late. The kids were waiting all night for this. They gave away a new bicycle and had a Quarter toss. There must have been 75 kids on the front straight. They had a blast. I didn't pay any attention to the time but it was late. Bob.........

I think the way to handle may have been to cancel some of the support classes for the night to shorten up the program. The guys that got axed would not have been too happy I'm sure, but they didn't travel 4-5 hours like most of the LM teams did either.

The decision to try everything possible to get the show in was the correct one, late night be damned. Look at what everyone would have had to go through to return there at a later date... all that fuel, another hotel room(s), another day of meals on-the-run. I'd rather lose a bit of sleep, than have it cost me hundreds of dollars to do that trip twice.

Maybe the best answer would have been to run it on Sunday instead, but the track doesn't like to do that (possibly because of Church support), and truthfully, daytime races on dirt almost ALWAYS suck! The WORST way to handle it would've been to call it early without a full blown effort into trying to race.

No matter what, somebody isn't going to be happy. But I think the Lloyd's did all they could, and the races got completed!

Like I said before, I'm not saying they made the wrong call. In fact, given the situation I think maybe doing it late was probably the best choice under the circumstances. I can certainly see why many people feel that way. But I still say 4AM is asking too much, and I think Frasson may be on the right track in suggesting that the support classes be cancelled in order to get the main event done at a reasonable hour. The bottom line is trying to race at this time of the year with the weather being as unpredictable as it can be, sometimes no answer is the correct answer.
