For asphalt fans only--
Wouldn't it be hard to pick out one race a year to attend?
If that were the case, we would have to pick out the Fastest Short Track Show in the World, and that was supposed to happen at Toledo Speedway, a high-banked 1/2 mile in the Midwest on 6/13/08.
It got rained out, and I was there, caught a Mudhen Baseball Game instead.
But here he states, in an article; in a challenge that the Sprints were actually faster than the Supermodifieds; I know, I know, but.....
Sprints and Supers together on the same ticket, on the same night, on the same Track, on a Friday night, during Michigan Intl'l Speedway Weekend?
This is why I went.
Here is what has happened, per article, and subsequent previous attempts.
A large purse, a big gamble, a big field, and a handicap system--who could actually break into the 12 second bracket. Kevin Newton, in a sprint wowed the large crowd in a 12:99 that stunned everybody. Kevin Feeney brought the house down with a 12:96. Cameron Dodson came on the scene in Dick Myers sprint with a 12:90, that stands as the all-time Toledo record to this day. The Supers were right there, but not mentioned. As hard as that seems, the Supers with their pivot-wings, offset-engines, downforce effects and big-bullish motors, and slick-as-snot looks and appeal, reading from this article, the Sprints seem to have the edge.
The article doesn't state what the race results were, or the total qualifying times were in each class, or the results.
But for the Asphalt Fans out there, as few down south here are left, there is still Big-Time Outlaw Bad-Fast Sleds out there streaking their sleek Machines around; you just have to chase them at their Shows, and their Tracks.
