With this weekend being the Governor's Cup, here's some stuff from the very early days of the track... It opened as "Daytona Raceway" on April 23, 1967 and was a dirt track (more of a "dust" track) for about three months until they gave up and paved the place... Racing resumed in September with a 200-lap LM race won by the late Larry Flynn... Initially the track had no lights but they were installed in early-1968 and the track ran Sunday night shows drawing huge field of cars from all over Florida...
All this is from the Florida-based "Action Racing" newspaper that was published from 1967 through 1969.
