    OJ

neither you, me or Tripper "took a round".. we are merely giving our opinions and you ALWAYS think yours is the only correct one. well it isnt! it is simply another opinion! Aric is a serious racer and he is getting closer and closer to a NASCAR win! As good as some of our drivers are doing 100 laps on a short track, i wonder how many could do 400 on Talledega with 43 win hungry drivers surrounding him... i did not say they couldnt... i said i wonder how many could!... i said all i have to say about ARIC ALMIROLA and i stand by it...I am VERY proud of him! Same with David Reutimann...when the door of opportunity opens, only a fool would not enter and try...

      Blissful ignorance revisited.........

Um....Oz, is it?.....let me see if I can recall the phrase I seem to read on here almost every time you feel threatened or worse yet, ignored.

I think it goes like this:

"I have as much right to post my opinions as anybody on here."

Sound familiar? Well so do I, lady.

Well here's another little trinket for ya:
If I didn't think I was right, then it wouldn't be my OPINION! Just the same as yours. And misguided as you might be, no one doubts that in your mind you truly believe you're in the right. About everything.
So why does it bother you so much that someone else's opinion gets posted on here too? Could it be that little bitty flicker somewhere in your head that says, "maybe I'm wrong?" hmmmmmmmmm?....

Lastly, no one has ever said anything about this kid being a fool or lacking the ability to promote himself. All I've ever seen anyone post about is the absurdity of this "Drive for Diversity" BS and the fact that this kid has not proven himself to be anything special in a race car or any more deserving than a few hundred other drivers from around the country and probably 2 or 3 dozen right here in our state. In fact, I'd like to see a poll to gauge karnacians feelings on the legitimacy of NASCAR's diversity programs. Yeah, that would be something.

No one on here has said they hope that he fails miserably and ends up kicked to the curb, embarassed for not living up to the hype created by NASCAR and the media. Why is it so hard for you to understand this? I single you out because you seem to need to have a right and wrong side to every discussion or debate that comes down the pike. There was another guy on here who said it best: "Nothing gets decided on a message board and you're opinions don't mean s--t." Sage advice from a friend of yours.

Here's my last "opinion" on this matter:
You're delusional if you think steering a Sprint Cup (or whatever the hell NAPPYCAR calls this them this week) on any track larger than 3/4 mile is harder than actually racing a short track late model (dirt or asphalt). In 400 laps my grandmother has a shot at winning one of those races.( see that right there is called sarcastic humor....I use it a lot) There hasn't been any real racing in that series for almost two decades now. This is why they need all these new fans. Because the old ones realize how bad they've been duped all this time.

P.S. Fred won himself a round now as his post was just about dead on perfect.

      But I guess that's just my O~P~I~N~I~O~N.........

I love to read what OSMOSIS has to say cause 99.9% of the time, I agree with what he has to say. He doesn't shoot from the gut, he talks about the real world. Personally I think the diversity program is B.S.!!! For every 1 driver that comes from it, shoots down 10 [like Choquet,Anderson, Schofield,Powell, Pratt, Bresnaham, and on and on and on] who should have made it on talent. That in turn waters down the NASCAR driving talent. NASCAR use to be the very best at there game. Not no more! OH SURE, you still have some good drivers, but who are they really driving against? It's not about who is the best driver anymore. It's about who is the best, with the good looks, with the sponsors, with the fans. Actually DRIVING is not first no more.
As far as David R. is concerned, Waltrip had a test at Lakeland and they asked David to drive for them.Which he did.
Everything that he told them to change on the car, to make it faster, the computer agreed.
THAT'S WHY HE GOT TO BE WHERE HE'S AT NOW. NOT the color of his skin OR his racing background.
Carol, that's why people go against you [ atleast on this] because in real racing, you get what you EARN, not by your ethnicity!!! I guess that's why I go to the races when they race on Sat. night!!

Things have changed in NASCAR. It has so little to do with winning races.

It has to due with bringing new fans and new sponsors to the sport.

these two points oppose each other. what the heck is the fan supposed to be watching if the drivers on the track couldn't wheel their car out of a wet paper sack?

you can babble at me all day long about how great somebody like Erin Crocker ( choose your own "diversity" pick, i haven't seen a good one yet ) is supposed to be. there's only one problem. i've seen her drive. she's an idiot of Steve Wallace magnitude. and if Chrissy doesn't pick up the pace a whole bunch she's not going to amount to anything more than her cousin either. unless maybe she does a bikini shoot. then she could be NASCAR's Danica Patrick.

are there lousy white guys in NASCAR? shore nuff. most of them have to buy their rides in and then they only last a couple of years. there's a very ugly chance we could get stuck with a "diversity" driver that was no good.

Jimmy, getting back to your original question. I love how these threads always seem to stray...I have seen Aric win races at both Orlando and NSS. Both of which were tour races if I am not mistaken. I beleive one was in a modified and the other in a super or lm(?).

OJ, I just might take you up on that round.....and you were right about being able to put just about anyone (at least a competent short track racer) in a cup car at Daytona or Talladega and be able to race. It happens in ARCA every week. Thats why there are numerous "rides for rent". Bring the money and you can race. Experience not necessary.

                Osr2

this may shock you but i totally agree with you.. perhaps you misunderstood or did not read my entire posts... i do not agree with "diversity" programs... in fact i think they are unfair to people like Aric in some ways. just read the posts...when a guy like Aric gets a ride because he is Hispanic it tends to turn people away from them rather than make them popular...however... minorities have a slim chance of being in NASCAR without the program. Since they do have this program we need to realize that the chosen are not chosen from a bunch of losers. they are good racers and they have to work twice as hard to prove themselves. i think Arics record in NASCAR has been very good. i dont think anyone should earn a special place in ANYTHING because they are in a minority program. But if a minority is giving as much as anyone else and doesnt get a chance to move up because he is a minority...that is wrong...
i have talked about this many times. i very well remember the 60's when they started the bussing in Boston to bring little black children into better areas for a better chance at education. i remember the looks of terror when white people turned the busses over with the little children inside! eventually it all worked out and maybe NASCAR's choices will change but it doesnt go over well to try and force minorities on people.
the only thing i may have exaggerated on was the word "GREAT"... i get enthusiastic when these young guns of ours make it to higher levels and i cant help but praise them... if thats a crime... im a criminal. Aric isnt GREAT but he is doing a good job and he is all ive said he is. there is no way i evaluate a driver by the way he looks! i like a clean cut look but i dont care as long as they can entertain me with a good race!
i never claimed to be any racing genius but i do have the right to be disagreed with in a polite way. i feel OJ likes to piss me off and he comes off as the racing encyclopedia of America...everyone else is WRONG and he is right. his logo says that! do i dislike Matt... heck no... i just dont like being talked down to and i should ignore it but i cant.
didnt mean for this to be so long. i am a passionate woman and anyone who knows me should just read my message and not take the drama seriously... i apologize for calling Aric "great"... but i dont apologize for promoting his racing abilities in NASCAR! KEEP UP THE GOOD RACING ARIC!!!

                  Holy cow......

Wow.....I've gotta go right now so I'll respond in full later but let me just ask one thing:

Logo? What the hell are you talking about?

                  My logo??

And I do try and read your posts, Carol. It's just hard when you contradict yourself so much and then, like the last post, try and back up to cover your tracks. A message board is all about the debate. Jeezus, if any body should realize that by now, it's you. People post their opinions because they think they are right and want to see how many people agree with them.

Maybe you need to try and read my posts.

                  Really.

                      OJ...

the logo is the little quote you put at the bottom of your posts. i cant remember the words but it is about you being right. i take it as humor as i am sure thats what you intended.... alot of times things get taken wrong on message boards. even when i disagree with people i try to respect them and not be insulting. you ALWAYS enjoy belittleing me. i do not BACKTRACK!!!!!!! i just sometimes feel there are circumstances that merit differences in even my own opinions. such as the diversity program.. i do not agree with forcing integration. i do agree with earning a place ... however, if they didnt have diversity programs we are such a predjudiced society alot of minority people would not have a chance to compete...
OJ... i am not senile and i am not ignorant.i am also not above being corrected... i AM against the way you do it to me. no one else insults me. they simply agree or disagree.actually Matt...
my whole point was to just say that I was proud of Arics performance as a NASCAR driver. i stand by that...i am allowed to be proud of him.. thats all. no need for you to gather weapons of destruction and come after me....lol im not getting into a pissing match with you and i dont have to defend my feelings for Aric. take em or leave em... just remember this... "I COULD BE RIGHT".... if nothing else good comes from this maybe people will look at Aric and notice him more and give him credit for doing a good job out there. ive heard that bad publicity is better than no publicity...(not sure i agree tho)
                      much love

Just curious as to how diverse Nascar wants to be. Right now we have Aric, Montoya, Carpentier, Ambrose, Franchitti entered in the NH race. Last week it was even more diverse. In another decade Nascar will start a program trying to recruit Americans to enter. JK

                          Why is that?

Money and talent know no boundary as far as race religion ect, mostly money LOL.

i see what your saying about him grabbing an opportunity.

I also know a bunch of little rich white kids in that series that DON'T deserve a ride but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ prevails.

In short if you have the money and talent you can get in..........he just went the easy route. i have nothing against that other than hearing (deserves) or (earned) in the same sentence as "Diversity Program".

                            My head hurts....

"the logo is the little quote you put at the bottom of your posts."

Again. What the hell are you talking about. I have no "logo" or words at the bottom of my posts.

                            "you ALWAYS enjoy belittleing me."

No. I do not. I enjoy debating topics. But sometimes I just don't think you have enough of an understanding of a subject to offer an opinion that isn't based on emotion and/or ideas that have no relationship to the point being discussed.

                            "i do not BACKTRACK!!!!!!!"

Ahem. Please read the entire thread including your last post and let us know if you want to "backtrack" again.

"however, if they didnt have diversity programs we are such a predjudiced society alot of minority people would not have a chance to compete..."

What country do you live in anyways? I've never seen anyone turned away from any track because they were not white. Blacks, Hispanics, Chinese, Japanese.......I've read a lot of rulebooks and have never seen where these folks are banned from building and racing a car in any class they choose to. Please. Explain this statement to me......

"i am not senile and i am not ignorant."

I kindly refer to the logo issue.....I'm assuming, and that is a dangerous thing to do, you mean my signature section on the Desoto Speedway meassage board where it says:
                            Let's just compromise.....and agree that I'm right.

To be clear, that's another message board on a different website. With a different screen name.

"i am also not above being corrected... i AM against the way you do it to me. no one else insults me. they simply agree or disagree"

Apparently, you must think I am correct then.
As far as insulting you, I really don't recall ever mentioning your name until you used mine. What a short memory you have if you think my opposition of your views holds a candle to the things that used to be said about you right here on this very web site by some people you now call friends. Those were insults. Have I ever been vulgar when addressing you in a post? Show me an example and I'll backtrack a little myself. Not my style, Miz Wicks, I get a much better reaction with the sarcastic humor angle.

"just remember this... "I COULD BE RIGHT"...."

                            Well....I'll take my chances.

                              benny...

i agree... but what im saying is AFTER Aric was seleced he has proven himself to be a really good NASCAR racer. i also agree with you that $$$$$$$$$ controls racing and I hate that too. There is no doubt in my mind that Jeff Choquette is far better a racer than Kyle Petty, Michael Waltrip and a couple others. i also think roush made a huge mistake not giving him a chance. but it is the luck of the draw... Aric won the draw ... he has earned his place in NASCAR by performing well for NASCAR... not because he is Hispanic... do any of you know Aric personally? have you had a chance to meet him? he is really a very nice guy and very polite...thats on top of being a good racer.

OJ...please just try not to be so condescending to me. i realize i am a woman but GET OVER IT! im here to stay and i will yell and holler and go out of my way to compliment a driver for even the slightest reason.. the drivers are VERY special to me...! thats just me. i dont expect miracles. i just expect them to do their best... i wish i knew how to draw a peace pipe...lol
