It *was* sad to watch that. We won a few races down there ourselves, some in the mid to late '70s with Chargin' Charlie Reagan behind the wheel, and we won a 200-lap All-Pro race in 1988 there with Daniel Keene.
Hialeah was a tough little joint. Now there are no asphalt tracks on the east coast south of New Smyrna. It was a shame losing Palm Beach, and before that, Vero, Ft. Pierce, and Melbourne (Eau Gallie). Vero could've been a showplace, but there was just too many tracks in a small area, which I believe killed a lot of local tracks over the years. *Sigh*....Comment

Vero Beach Speedway, as it is said, couldn't find a proper time and place for a long existance--another too-short lived facility.
It's now a sand/rock quarrey, a lake. It's existanc spanned from 1971-77.
But......it's location is still somewhat remote, not encroached upon by urban sprall. If this litlle jewell would stilll have remained, even dormant for the last 20 years, even in need of an overhaul, paint job, etc., this facility would have probably come back to life.
What the heck is the latest on the St. Augustine Speedway?--that little gem is still standing. How come that thing doesn't come back into play?Comment
