Scott Lagasse won the late models in his Boy Scout prepared Bloomquist chassis. Chappel and Fitz pushed on him hard but he held his line on the bottom and brought home the win. 27 late models on hand and 26 started the race. Kyle Bronson won the modified feature.
Impressive show at VSP..really nice crowd and decent car counts in supporting show. They are making some progress for sure. Late model race was entertaining. Compared to asphalt slm show there was a bunch of passing.
I will be back for a regular saturday show.
Only complaint was the speakers, I sat in the old wooden stands between metal ones and turn one. I coulddnt hear a thing the announcer was saying. Would have been nive to hear the drivers or the names of the divisions, whether it was a heat/feature, how many laps etc.
Good work out there guys, glad to see it back alive.
Will agree about the sound system... Has been an on-and-off problem at VSP for years but it is really bad right now... Have to feel bad for Lynn... he's a pretty good announcer but 75% of the people there Sat. night couldn't hear much of anything and nothing at all when cars were on the track...
Once they got thru the boring single car qualifying (why qualify, then run heats? A waste of time in my opinion) the show moved pretty good... The LM race was great... Was amazed how Lagasse was the only guy who really hooked up on the bottom and he was doing his best "Bobby Allen" impersonation on his way to victory... Good racing throughout the field and a number of different lines being used...
Best race of the night was the Hobby Stocks or whatever they are called now... Good three car battle... Don't know who the guys were because you couldn't hear the announcer, but a great race nonetheless...
Was interesting watching the Mini Stock race... The first several cars were Mini-Modifieds while the last two cars were real Mini Stocks... they were hopelessly outclassed but still looked like they were having fun...
Had a great time hanging out with Frassy and Chris Lawrence... had not seen Chris in a long time...
All in all a good night... they seem to be getting a few more cars and run a decent show plus the track is staying racy... Hope they can keep the place open and running...
PS: I was looking at the Ocala results... terrible car counts... Looks like it's time for Bubba to re-group...
Yea single car qualifying can only be made even worse by not havin a PA and no real working scoreboard. It has been a while since I followed any dirt late models and I had no idea who was in what and how fast they were. Wish they would have just run heats and let them go.
