Sad News - Bruce Gowland

Speed51.com reports the loss of Bruce Gowland following a long fight with cancer. The Orangeville, Ontario racer was a regular in the OSCAAR racing circuit and was a competitior in Super Late Model events during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) for nearly 20 years. Thoughts and prayers to Gowland's family and friends.

That was a really neat and nice guy. His hauler had pics throught the years in it and he also did tractor pulling.
His crew and him always had time to talk.

2014 (New Smyrna's 50th Year) would have been Bruce's 25th trip to the World Series. To honor Bruce's memory, New Smyrna Speedway has purchased Lap #18 of the 48th Annual Florida Governor's Cup 200.

That is sad news. Other than David Rogers, I can't think of anyone who's been involved in more NSS Speedweeks, than Bruce.

I usually bring a notepad to practice night beforehand to write down who al is there. Many times I had his name written down before I went in the gate. I just KNEW that Gowland Sand & Gravel rig would be in there somewhere.

It's a shame I won't be writing it down next year.
