Go Newman.......Nascar did the right thing, like it or not....this is not a team sport on the track

  • #2
the right thing for them to do would have been to Remove all MWR drivers from the chase and strip them of all points and money from the weeks race.
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

      Verdict

NASCAR has issued penalties to Michael Waltrip Racing following the sanctioning body’s review of Saturday’s race at Richmond International Raceway.

MWR was found to have violated Section 12-4 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing). As a result, MWR’s three teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (No. 15, 55, 56) have been penalized with the loss of 50 championship driver and 50 championship owner points, respectively. These point penalties are assessed following the season’s 26th regular-season race and not after the seeding for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Therefore, the point total for the No. 56 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. is reduced to 691, putting him in 17th position and eliminating him from the second Wild Card berth for the Chase field. Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 car, now moves up into the Chase as the second Wild Card participant.

NASCAR has also fined the MWR organization $300,000 and indefinitely suspended Ty Norris, MWR Executive Vice President/General Manager and spotter for the No. 55 car, for violating Section 12-4. The three crew chiefs -- Brian Pattie (No. 15), Scott Miller (No. 55) and Chad Johnston (No. 56) -- have all been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.

“Based upon our review of Saturday night’s race at Richmond, it is our determination that the MWR organization attempted to manipulate the outcome of the race,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. “As the sport’s sanctioning body, it is our responsibility to ensure there is a fair and level playing field for all of our competitors and this action today reflects our commitment to that.”

I am not a fan of Jeff Gordon but they should have made an exception and let him in too. You would think the drivers and crew for MWR would have had a better plan that wasn't so obvious.

I am a big fan of Newman and it was looking like a victory on Saturday night until Bowyer's spin changed things. Newman lost fair and square because his pit crew let him down. Truex was rightfully removed from the chase due to the tampering from his entire team to set Newman up for failure.

Sadly, I don't think Newman has much of a chance for the championship as Stewart Haas is a pretty weak team. Looking forward to next year in the RCR #31.

You would have thought that MWR would have realized that NASCAR could analyze their every move. Between having in-car video and audio as well as all the in-car telemetry, you would think that they would have thought this through a little better. "Hey Clint, does your arm itch?"...... How lame.

I like that they did something, but I think NASCAR framed it stupidly. And I think Gordon is the real loser in this deal. Helton said they couldn't 100% prove the spin was intentional, but obviously the pit stops were. The spin is what took Newman out and the vickers pit stop too Gordon out. So if the penalty was because of the pit stops it should have been Gordon in the chase, not Newman - right?

The spin took a potential win away from Newman. The pit stop by Vickers put Logano in front of Vickers which put Logano in the top 10 in points and removed Gordon from the top 10. Since Gordon had no wins Kahne got the wild card & Truex/Newman were tied for 2nd wildcard with Truex holding the tiebreaker. Since they penalized Truex Newman is now in, but they can't really penalize Logano by taking him out and putting Gordon in since Logano wasn't part of the guilty party? If anything they'd have to tack Gordon in as a 13th driver....

STOP THE CHASE and just race

then no one would sandbag for a teammate

just go fast and turn left

                      Newman

If everybody says that NASCAR got the mwr incident correct what about Carl jumping the restart that followed? NASCAR made Jimmie come down pit lane during green flag run because he beat Montoya to the start finish line. Why is Carl not treated the same way???

Yeah I dunno what ya do. Helton said they weren't 100% on the spin being intentional, so the penalty is only about the pit stops, yet the pit stops had zero affect on Newman. Seems to me Helton sort of talked himself into a corner with what he said about the spin *maybe* not being intentional. I can't see how it's possibly right to leave Gordon out, but it's all messed up anyhow.

The answer would have been penalize them 100 points each. That would have moved truex and boyer out of the top ten and put gordon and newman in, without effecting any other team.

There is no way NASCAR is going to be able to police, cars slowing or spinning on purpose, to advance another team member. The teams will come up with code words that make sense, to use in the future. "I thought I saw smoke coming out of car, check your oil pressure", this would be the new code to spin yourself. It sucks, but when there is millions of dollars on the line, teams will find way to manipulate the out come. The only thing MWR did wrong, was they did not have code words in place before the race. This kind of stuff has been going on for years. I have even seen extra cars being raced on a local level to protect a point leader in a given situation! NASCAR to me is the one doing the manipulating!! If a driver is willing to spin or give up his position for another driver, there is nothing that can be done.

                              You people are crazy.

If you were a team owner you would do whatever to get your driver in the chase. Move over and let a car pass, wreck Boyer at Phoenix to help Johnson win the points, just stop on the track to get a caution (Jr). All of you are so critical but in that spot you would do the same or worse. Is it right or wrong , who knows?
