  • New Smyrna 8-17

I was treated to a very good SLM feature tonight at Ne Smyrna. Anthony Sergi and David Rogers went at it for win in a classic duel. This was hard fought and with an uncertain outcome until they finally crossed the line. Although there were only 8 starters, everyone was reasonably competitive so there was always something going on. Congrats to Mr. Sergi on his first SLM win!

The track also announced a big upgrade in the facility. To my surprise, they are going to revamp the lighting and install the latest in Musco technology. The lighting at NSS is already the best around, so I was hoping for a fancy new LED scoreboard. But I can't complain about a big upgrade like this. They are planning and investing for the long term and I am happy about that. Besides, maybe they have something planned that requires better lighting....a televised event perhaps? Just a guess.

Actually its all new lights. They made sure and told us in the drivers meeting it wasn't that old stuff cause we all said the same thing. I personally think nascar is prepping the track for televised races such as moving the battle of the beach races to nss. Be cool

I think the lighting is pathetic at best...This will be a fantastic improvement!

Sad to see 2 cars get torn up from what looked like bonehead moves from other drivers

On a positive note........ this is good news. I always get concerned when Wal-mart and subdivisions build that close.

Oops, I see on FB that Anthony got DQ'd for left side weight. The fans enjoyed the race and he drove like a pro. That's racin'.

At the drivers meeting last night Kim announced about the new lighting and it was NOT the stuff they had from the Lakeland track. All new lighting and poles will be in place for the Govenors cup.

On another note, I had a blast in the MOD race and got a second after a DQ for ride height.. I'll take it

Several things I am either surprised or excited about...

Sergi has never won in an SLM? Surprised
New lights - gotta be something behind that..Surprised/Excited
Unrelated to any of this thread but..Bass Pro Shops being an anchor in the new daytona development project - Not surprised but very excited even though its not a full Outdoor World.

For sound system, they need to see what Bubba Land has....it's the best I have heard @ any track...clear as can be...sounds like announcer is right beside you...also caution lights are great - bright and lots of them around track....very impressive.....OSF
Thank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:

Funny you mentioned those two things OSF. The caution lights are like Bubbas now(multi flashing yellow) and the sound was a lot better over on the pit side. I could actually hear and understand the announcer DURING the racing..
The 'heard on the street' comment I heard on the lighting is so the races can be televised.. Starting with the Govenors cup..

Diamond Jim I am glad you were happy with your 2nd place finish.......because you almost got my dad killed last night........let me preface this by saying I know you did nothing intentionally but.......when you push up in the middle of a corner and the car behind you gets under you and you drive down into him, please in the future have the courtesy to get off him and not continue to drive him down in the grass.......evidently all the contact somehow broke the brake line on the RF and when my dad attempted to turn into one the brake pedal went to the floor and subsequently destroyed the car.......

AGAIN LET ME SAY THAT I KNOW THERE WAS NO INTENT ON JIM"S PART but you just cannot drive people in the grass you have to give people room to race.

So now for the rest of the story. I was BUMPED on the left rear almost out of four and was working to save the car from the wall myself... then that car comes up and hits my door while I'm still trying to save it, and I did. I was in the second line out of 4, how much higher should I go??
Sorry for what happened, but it was a complete surprize to me and I ALWAYS check the mirror starting into a turn and he was not there, so I did my line till being bumped almost out of 4...
Ask around and some came to me with the same story.
I'm really glad your dad is ok and sorry about the car... been there, done that.. but just hard raceing and not really a fault here..
