Welcome to Pretentious World Speed Park.....

Just a couple of thoughts about this totally ridiculous thread....

Do you think that those SRO crowds that flock to the Crasharama type events are hoping to get a picture with the prettiest heap out there?....

Don't think I've ever heard one fan leaving a track saying, "Well I ain't coming back til them boys tidy up those cars a little bit. I don't care much fer this here type 'o' "rubbin' is racin' dealio......

If the track can't be expected to make their operation the cleanest and most fan friendliest they can offer, how can they expect their racers to follow suit?...

Because we all know that chrome and nice paint is worth an additional 20 hp.....

And of course it's better to LOOK like you can go 300 mph than to actually be ABLE to.....

      And finally....
Lenny Boehler is laughing out loud at you right now, Jerry......for shame, son...for shame.

C'mon Osmosis - it is all about expectations. If I come out to crash-a-rama, I want to see some creative turds painted with house paint by kindergarteners.

If I come out to see a late model or modified show, then yes, as much as a non-compliant person as I am, there should be some reasonable level of professionalism expected for the division you are entered in.

To another point, as much credit is due for "showing up", what the hell fun is it to be 5 seconds off the pace? Why waste the tow money? And that is a serious question - why waste the tow money? No way in hell that is fun week after week.

And to talk to Boneman's original point - call it what you want, NSS has had painfully slow restart procedures for as long as I can remember. Call it the two lap tango, the three lap tapdance, etc, etc... If there is a slower way to do it, they'll find it.

There needs to be someone kicking ass and taking names and telling the drivers at the drivers meeting "if there is a restart, get your shit together - this is the way we are doing it so we don't look like a clown show in front of the fans. If you don't like it, you'll go to the back or get black flagged."

They seem to figure it out on the dirt tracks. Ugh. You make me use dirt tracks as an example.

DAMN it OJ..... you just cut filleted the tuna out of me on the Lenny Boehler reference.....

Hanging my head in nostalgic shame right now.... you're right about that one..!

But then again, most everything he ran against was a lot better looking. When you get 23 diamonds, and 1 turd, there are gonna be fans that pull for the ugly duckling.

That's one reason I'll ALWAYS be a fan of the late Bruce Everette.

Oops, I forgot New Smyrna's tire race. It was pretty cool, and a lot of families enjoyed getting out there and running around on the track.

I will say that the announcer cracked me up in that event! The track was giving away the junk tires used in the race, so the announcer urged fans to take one home. To my surprise, it turns out that the junk tires from the pile are "collectable" tires!

Next time, put the little kid inside the tire and have the parent push them. It would be just like riding in a dryer.

"Well I ain't coming back til them boys tidy up those cars a little bit. I don't care much fer this here type 'o' "rubbin' is racin' dealio
Alas Osmo, you don't realize that this car isn't fast enough for either rubbin' or racin'. Its like putting the 400 pound kid on the soccer team just so "everyone can win and everyone gets a trophy". This is supposed to be a competitive contest between adults, AND people are paying money to see it. It is no place for gaming the system to collect points. Get to work and race.

A turd by any other name.....

I don't know, Pintodave....expectations are funny things too.

Case in point. At Citrus the other night we were sitting in the stands talking about a guy that ran in the truck class (real trucks, I'm going back to the days before NASCAR changed the way we looked at trucks as race vehicles instead of towing vehicles). This guy was fat, nasty and I'm pretty sure teetering on the legal definition of drunk most every waking hour of the day. His "racing" truck was a beat up old Ford that said, in hand painted letters, F.A.R.T. in place of the Ford on the tailgate. There was no paint. It was the faded, old yellow factory paint it came with and the drivers door was hogged out so he could roll his fat butt into it.
Oh....he also never wore shoes. Ever. And I mean EVER.
They were the Webster's definition of disgustingly gross.
The track put their foot down (pun intended) and told him he had to wear shoes when racing. So he screwed a pair of high top tennis shoes to the pedals of the truck.

The fans loved it when this guy ran. They went wild. And he ran so bad that he would finish fourth in a three car race. But still they loved it when he pulled over the wall with his puke yellow, rolling cesspool.

And here we were talking about this guy 25 years later at a track 150 miles away.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

The part about being too slow, I guess is a valid point when talking about classes like Late Models or Sprints or even Modifieds. I look at it from a safety point of view. If they are a danger to themselves or someone else then it's time to sit them down and have "the talk" with them. I also believe that if you can't run within 2 seconds of the track average for the class your in then you start scratch until you improve. But you still start and run. Now, failure to follow the procedure for being lapped and recognizing the move over flag would be Black Flag worthy, of course. And there will always be lapped cars who will no doubt wind up altering the finish of a race by drifting up into the racing groove just as the leaders are entering the turn with 5 other guys on their ass...or the backmarker who thinks it's his job to make life rough for the guy trying to put him a lap (or six) down. Personally, that would not be fun for me. If I can't race to win I need to get back to work on my car or my driving. But for some people, that IS their rush. Everybody's different.

To the Bone's other point, I fully agree.
He needs to cover it up with a hat, totally.
And further, to his other point, I also hate a long restart where the cars just circle the track with no one lining them up or anything for 5....6....7 or more laps. This is an area of the weekend racing experience that needs a lot of work and reform. It can and should be done a whole lot better then it is now.

Sorry Jerry....but you KNOW I had to do that....lol

                    slow cars

Just a thought about slow cars, it is true they can be a pain in the ass and in the pocketbook due to they can be problematic when judging where and when to get by them. A poss solution is to go to them and offer some help in getting their cars/trucks faster. I would rather race with someone than lap them, we all have a bad race now and again but when it's every race they usually could use a little help (or a lot).
Paint on the other hand.....I believe in having pride in your ride
