Since it is Ohio and not Florida they will likely have the practice session tonight for the Nascar trucks, much less chance of rain. Speed is covering the practice live from 7 to 9. I sincerely hope this race comes off as planned with a good result. I have long thought that if Nascar would adopt this format for their races especially on shorter tracks they bring in more viewers and people in the stands. It would certainly break up the long boring freight train we have been watching. The only issue I have with the race format is the 150 lap feature. I believe in quality not quantity. If you have a 50 lap feature you have to race from green to checker. You won't pass anyone because of your pit stops. In any case lets all hope this may serve as an eye opener for further change.

I love the concept! What a great way to inject some life and interest into a series that just seems to drag along.
Hmmm... 150 laps for a big field of heavy racecars. I hope the track doesn't tear up.

Yeah, it's 150 laps - broken into three segments of 60, 50, and 40 laps.
Some heavy-hitters comin' out:
Bloomquist in Shrub's truck
Austin Dillon
Ty Dillon
Kyle Larson
Kenny Schrader
Kenny Wallace
Tracy Hines will get the ride in the #13
Dave Blaney will be in a Keselowski Ford
Newman driving for Turner-Scott
...and a few more, I'm sure, are supposed to show up
There could be 50 trucks going for 30 spots in the feature
Five heats, top five from each heat get in
Top four out of the consi
and one more (past champion not already in; if not, it goes to next truck not already in)
Weather's supposed to clear up, cloudy and about 73 tomorrow.
We'll be there

Amazing
I'm here watching in person and man let me tell you it is incredible. And what's great is it is wide open. I mean yea Larson set and blistering lap but that was early when track was soaked. Once the track black topped it was fair game. Jennifer Jo Cobb and norm benning was keeping up with bloomquist and the other dirt specialist. There's a hell of a crowd here for just practice and a 2,000 to win late model race. ( which has 20 entries)

I am in Pensacola right now and Five Flags Speedway are running commercials for this weekend's event on speed channel during the truck practice.
Advertisement, at the right time getting the message out to the right viewer......What a concept!Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

Pretty sure Joe Cobb, Jennifer's father, is driving the truck. I read that he races dirt modifieds in the midwest regularly.Originally posted by Lurkin View PostJenny Jo was 34th (last) and Norm Bennington was 28th, Bloomquist was 8th. That doesn't seem like keeping up to me but who am I to argue? :-)
Menard and Silas were dog slow.

I like the format also. Just wish I got speed channel for this. I used to really look forward to the 200 lap events they used to run in the northeast every fall. I'm not sure they still run them but they were high paying races for the big block modifieds. Strategy and pit stops were important and could really play into the suspense of the race. Races were not follow the leader as you might think they would be. They would race flat out the whole time. Tire selection for the start of the race as well as pit stops could make a huge difference. The only issue would be the track rubbering over and that does make passing harder. They were mostly day races so dust could be a problem for the spectators. BTW, they made the pit stops the old fashion way. They race into the pits, block other cars in, do their slow Nascar style pit stops, usually changing only rear tires, and then they race out. I don't know why someone hasn't been killed yet.Originally posted by egspeedway View Post------- The only issue I have with the race format is the 150 lap feature. I believe in quality not quantity. Yep, the Syracuse 200 and the Eastern States 200 are still going strong. The pit stops in those events are both awesome and ridiculous at the same time. Someone is going to get killed doing them at some point, it's just a question of when.Originally posted by Winger View PostI like the format also. Just wish I got speed channel for this.
