    Tire cost to the racer

As long as the tracks are going to be in the tire market here in Fla. the racer will have to keep buying tires to be competitive. I know it has been almost 10 years now, but I have run those hard APT's both from goodyear and from hoosier and yes they where off by 4 or 5 tenths but we raced 5 and 6 nights on a set of tires. Lefthander coil over car 2800# 3/8 mile track and every night Qualified, Fast Dash, Heat, Pursuit and 30 lap feature, and won track championship two years in a row. If a guy doesn't have to buy tires every other week, you will see a lot of cars back on the track, more people in the stands and the promoter can even lower the purse because a guy is not paying $400 plus for a set of tires every week or two. To be honest the stop watch showed the second and third night on those tires actually a tick faster than the first night on them.

Chassisdude, you are right on. BTW What were the "Hard" Hoosier airplane tires that were run? The new ones are soft. I ran on the Good Years but not on the "Hard" Hoosier grooved tires. Were they the 880's? The only hard Hoosiers I have ran on were the Commanches and Street TDs and they did last and got better the 2nd and 3rd weeks. We are having to buy at least 2 a night with the Sportsman on the Hoosiers we run now. I wish they were $400 a set. They are $520 a set!

I doubt it would work here but I've heard of track rules that restrict new tires. You start the season with 4 new tires. Every week after, you can buy one or two new tires and that's it. For some reason it seems like it may have been restricted to one new tire. If you have a flat, you get an exemption for the flat. I don't know how it could work with a racer driving two different tracks or a series. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

                        Personallty

amfchassis,I've always had a problem w/ the people at NSS.They argue w/ you at the ticket window when they have a refund policy of waiting A WHOLE YEAR when you buy a tix for the Gov's Cup race.Really, a whole year?

Then I'm treated to everyone in the Hart family introduced (ok,I sorta get that),then slobbering over some local politician. It's like someone in the stands said,"Hurry up,the beer's gettin' warm!!!".

Would someone please tell me the difference in costs and performance between the Hoosier F53's and a slick that Goodyear sells and manufactures?

Also, the difference in performance at cost between treaded and slick tires?
I'm just a fan trying to follow this thread of conversation......

Scott I really don't remember the number of those tires but they were hard but really stayed consistant until the thread was showing, really. I just looked at Hoosiers web site and you can order as soft or hard a tire that you want. I wish the promotors would see that a lot of cars would race a lot more if they knew they could be competitive with out having to buy tires every week. The sport we love is slowly slipping away because of the cost to race and tires are the biggest weekly cost to the racer. Man I hope they open their eyes before it is too late..........

                            Hmmm

A decent tire that lasts a few races, A motor rule that levels the playing field, A few fair chassis rules, And the central Florida tracks all on the same page. A decent payout and leave the rest up to the driver.............. Doesn't seem to out of the question..............
