Dirt has MORE action, for the fan and for the driver. The tracks are consitant yr in yr out with rules, scheldules, pay.Side by Side racing. Thus more fans more cars more pay for the so called lower classes.I have seen the most dedicated drivers and family on the dirt side.

Also, they grow a following, they are consistant with the rules, scheldules and pay.RACERS are hesistant people.Stay the course they will come.

The most action I've ever seen was on an asphalt track, so action is in the eye of the beholder. And rules, payouts, schedules etc. are just as big a mess at dirt tracks as they are at asphalt tracks. Dirt fans more dedicated, I don't know about that.
The lower classes are where stock car racing began. But stock car racing moved on to Super Lates. And it's now difficult to get fans excited about anything other than the top classes.
I really believe that a completely revamped lower class is what's going to bring stock car racing back from the grave. But a track owner is going to have to commit to the idea and stick with it for a couple of years to get it going. Once it is, the other tracks will copy the idea and stock car racing will grow again.

Is that Putnam race on Sunday only, or a 2-day show with the feature on Sunday?

Making fun of NASCAR and their overheated PR Dept. never gets old. But the cash machine that is ISC sure brings in some money with that nonsensical double talk. The same could be done on a smaller scale by every short track in the state.
Promotion, promotion, promotion is the thing.Last year I worked w/ Ross Chastain and Green Light Racing, and its tough.I had called corporate sponsors about 10 times a day.Not much sucess.I even called major leayge ball clubs like the Philadelphia 76'ers (Pocono race),The Columbus Blue Jackets (Kentucky),and the Detroit Pistons (MIchigan) for sponsorships for those races. The 76'ers people were the only ones interested, and if the Keselowski folks followed up for this year,Ross might haVE support on his car for the Pocono race.Secondary sposorships even in Trucks cost $10K.

I even called the people from Count Customs in Las Vegas, who have the show
"Counting Cars" on the History Channel. We almost had them, until their production company said no.I did offer Danny a ride-along in Ross' truck (Ross agreed to it),and you know the trucks run almost 200 mph at Las Vegas, but I think the History channel said no.Oh well...

But,thats on the big stage, not here locally, where I see a lot of stuff the drivers and track owners can do.

First off,its nice that some of the ladies like Linda Jerica and Carol Wilks do send out e-mails and info on FTS,but there's more that can be done.Mot just Full Throttle, but Showtine,Auburndale,Orlando,Citrus,Bronson,etc...

Number One,All of the asphalt track owners, have GOT to get together, work things out,and have some kimd of agreement to run shows in agreement from track to track. This might mean having like a commisioner, maybe a Rick Agnes and Matt Albee,to oversee rules, tech, tires, fuel, and set these rules so its fair to everyone, especially the drivers.

Number Two.All of you track owners be more inter-active with the fans.Offer a fair refund policy on rain-outs or changes in race card events.Dont promo drivers that are not going to show up (this means you Yoho).

Number Three, promotion. It means way more than sending out e=mails. You have to advertise withiin a budget.Radio,TV and to a way less extent newspapers,Offer drivers to the newspaoers for stories.People still read them, and it does generate interest.

TV,not only advertising on FOX or ESPN,but you have to go on like, any local show, maybe a Good Morning show..(Fort Myers,Orlando,Tampa, even Lakeland),and talk about your track and upcoming big events. Also small cable TV stations. They are more than willing to add broadcasting,so you pay for advertising om these smaller stations and you can sculp a whole show on these stations( you paying attention,Racin' Jason???) If you want to get bigger exposure, there's Brighthouse broadcasting, who are very supportive of local racing.Theyve done stuff w/ New Smyrna and Auburndale.

There are shows like Racing USA and 3 Wide Life, and others dedicated to racing.Owners and those who help can contact these shows about showing your bigger race events. It takes effort.Yolou Grammu have to phisically go to these stations,set-up meetings to do these things.I'm speaking from experience.Look the tracks in Florida have an advantage other A LOT of tracks around the country. They get talked a lot on the Speed Channel, during NASCAR races.

I worked professionally for 35 years, not only in radio and clubs, but Ive done play by play for semi-pro football teams on local cableb TV.I've also the last 20 years also, have done promotions and media for major rock bands like The Kings (Canada) D Drive, who are basically Lou Gramm'a back-up band.Lou was the singer in Foriegner.Plus numerous other bands who have played on a national level.

I have offered to help, and all I want in return is a ride to the track or tracks and either General adnittance,or a pit pass.I to would do a small recap show on the web,and blog a story and results on-line.

Again, the number one thing is agreement between you owners,or racing on asphalt will slowly die

This is the time of the dirt track, no doubt. But until just a couple of years ago dirt tracks in Florida were about dead. It goes in cycles. Asphalt draws the cars and fans, then dirt makes a comeback for a while.
I like to hear that any track is drawing a good crowd and good car count. But the word " good " is relative. The biggest night Melbourne has ever had would pale in comparison to any weekly asphalt or dirt track race ten years ago.

                      fla racing

I have been around racing my whole life as my mother worked at a dirt track when I was a child. Racing has changed a whole lot since. When I moved to fla. in 1987 I started asphalt racing as a crew member then became an owner in mod mini or mini stock at the time, cheap cars in the early 90s our regular feature played $225.00 to win,now alot
more money spent on cars and the highest win payout is $300.00. My point is price to race went up alot and payout went up only a little. Hard to race every week like we used to or twice a week when little lakeland and a-dale ran Fri and sat nights. You have to have a good starter classes to get new people interested. Tracks must advertise or nobody knows what's going on. I've had people tell me they thought a-dale was closed and they live in a-dale. Everyone has to get involved not just the tracks. We went to a benefit event for a family and only 4 cars showed up and 3 were friends of whom put the event on. (sad) Support your community and your local tracks and try to make it better and not worse.
                      Richard

I've looked at the website for Putnam County as well as their Facebook, but see nothing posted yet. If anyone has any info on this race, please post it. I WILL travel across the state to see it. Good luck!

With it being a Sunday race, the car count will be great.

You are right,as of today.?Dirt track racing ,as it is today,is more popular.

When you have drivers like Tony Stewart, who owns Eldora and has a minor investment in Attica speedway in Ohio, that in itself generates HUGE interest.

They pay-out more money,in general, across the country compared to asphalt tracks, plus its usually cheaper for fans to go to these races.

I used to go to Atomic speedway near Chillicothe Ohio.I know its under a newer name today. Also Millstream speedway in Findlay OH,which is now gone.

Also I've been to Eldora before Ms. Tomy bought it.The racing was good.I still prefer asphalt tho. So,I hope asphalt track owners will, one day,get their act together, but I'm not holding my breath...
