  • Get Your Thinking Caps On!! 1979 Daytona Modified Race

Need some help ID'ing these drivers from the 1979 Daytona Modified event... Of course I never wrote on each picture who they were... I did find the finish on the web, but no car numbers were listed: The finish was Richie Evans, Neil Bonnett, Darrell Waltrip, Geoff Bodine, Joe Thurman, Bob Riley, Roger Hill, Bobby Allison, Alan West, Bob Park, Peter Knab, Jerry Cook, John Coering, Jerry Makara, Al Horton, Mike Humphries, Bub Strickler, Mike Duvall, Dave Dunkin, John Anderson, Wayne Anderson (not the FL one, the NC one), Roger Hill, Francis Affleck, Randall Fowler, Tim Williamson, Doug Hewitt, Tommy Hilbert, Wayne Peterson, Gil Hearne, Maynard Troyer, Howard Boone, Mike Potter, Don Dorman, Dave Nichols, Chet Williams and Bob Wearing.

    1) I Know that Neil Bonnett was in Pee Wee Griffin's #72 - Was Troyer in the #60??
    2) I'm thinking the #42 is Jerry Makara...
    3) No idea on the Olympia Beer car...
    4) #50 ???
    5) The #77 is NOT Harry Gant... #17 ????

    HELP!!!

The #60 is Bob Riley, Norwalk Ct.
The #0 may well be John Doering from Michigan
The #50 is probably Tim Willaimson, as he was a West Coast star, and the car itself is a California team... usually driven by Jimmy Insolo

I thought the 42 was Farrell Harris, and the 17 was Ron Bouchard, but neither of them is in the finishing results.

P.S. - The Wayne Anderson in the listing was actually from Long Island NY, and won a bunch of races at Islip, Riverhead, and probably Freeport.
