  • Citrus hangs tough

It rained like crazy on us last night at Citrus County Speedway. I had my stuff locked in the trailer and was making plans that involved pizza and beer. BUT, the storm passed and the track went full speed ahead and dried the surface. They made minor adjustments like allowing only a single practice session and starting later, but the fact is they got their show in when virtually no one in the pits thought it would be possible.

Thanks to Critter and the crew for making the tough decision to move ahead. I know the 21 sprints that made the trip also thank you! I was surprised at how many fans made it. I'm sure it would have been better on a dry day, but I sure hope everything added up ok for the track.

We lost one sprint who went home during the storm...ouch!

There has been some discussion on here lately about tracks throwing in the towel if the weather is less than perfect, but I'm going to tell you that Citrus Co. wanted to race and they DID!

I can remember being at the Charlotte County Speedway back when Leroy had it the first time . On several occasions it rained twice. and them even letting spectators bring their cars out to help dry the track. I think that's going above and beyond by all to get the show in . Great job by all !!!

      Citrus

Last year or the year before Critter and the crew literally got vacumn trucks and cleared a 2 foot deep puddle in the infield to keep the race on.

The first year I photographed there, they didn't have a single rain out. The next year they had one and that came halfway through the program. They always try to get them in.

No doubt about it they stuck it and did what others would just give in too, they stuck it out and got the show in, and I also liked the one round of practice only, it sped the whole program up,, I would also say KUDOS to big john for coming up with the idea to place HUGE FLASHING SIGNS in the median telling people up and down US41 SPRINT CARS TONIGHT AT THE FAIGROUNDS great idea it caught my eye, CONGRATS to mickey kempkens for pulling the win out in the 5 SPRINTER you sure where over do man, I no you had to be pumped up to finally get that win,
