  • When everything else have failed

Seems some Fla tracks have some problems.

We had that same problem here in Qc not so long ago.

Here what the majority of the promoters did, and it worked pretty good for them.

They all(almost) got out of their local//weekly programs. They concentrate their time and energy to promoting instead of arguing with racers on double file restarts, number of laps, carburators, MSD boxes and or racing shocks.

They cut their schedule down to 8/10 events, all major stuff.

All racing is done with series which comes with their staff and race teams.

So now, they hire a big serie for the Main Event, like ACT or PASS, and add more local series like Québec Sportsman, or STR or whatever else, + their own 4 cyl and V8 class.

So they end up with a great show, very few or no hassle from racing side. And they have all the time to PROMOTE.

And everybody work together trying not to run over each other, unless it over the other end of province which would not conflict with race fans, too far away.

And they also add country western w/e, where people drive in with trailer, motorhome, tents, whatever for a w/e of music, & family entertainment.

    They have rock concert too.

Drift shows are big here too. Draws more fans than stock car racing.

And during the week, the have drift nights, drag night, solo racing, practices of all kind. Anything that brings in the people and, by the same token, some $.

And one show here that draws a lot is the Fondation Mira night. It's for blind people fondation. They bring in singers, artists, comedians, all kind of well known people to coach the blind drivers. They line the cars up, and drop the green. That is a blast. Pack the grandstand every year since decades.

I can understand that, but you adjust accordingly.

You see here, they run 8/10 shows from around May 15th to September. So it would be pretty easy to run 15/20 shows if you run longer or all year long. I think the trick of all that is BIG EVENTS, all big guns, and blast the place with cars, stars, glamour and fireworks. Mesmerize the gallery.

If you run 18 jam pack shows a year, is it better than 25/30 empty ones????

Those are just ideas that I have seen work very well here.

I have personaly seen more people at some of those shows than some race tracks will draw in their whole season.

Once again, Don only tells part of the story. When Lakeland (USA) opened, it was a SMASH. It did very well for a long period of time.

But the downfall came when the shows they were hosting became too much admission, for not enough show.

It's not completely Lakelands fault that it came down this way, as some of their most successful Series that were brought in, had big problems of their own.

Hooters Cup, ASA, Speedfest, SARA, Sunbelt, all were in a downward spiral at the same time. One of THE best attended race in their history, was a Wednesday night USAC Silver Crown race. The place was PACKED, and enthusiastic. Unfortunately, it was a one-and-done event.

My basic point is, it wasn't a failure of fans to support it... it's that it got to a point that the show being presented wasn't worth the money they wanted for admission and pit passes.
