After watching some of the lame announcers during the TV broadcasts this week, wish we could bring back a guy like Larry Nuber... Hard to believe it's been 13 years since he passed on June 8, 2000... He and Bob Jenkins made an incredible team and the guy was incredibly versed on all forms of racing... No boogity-boogity from Larry, just good, solid announcing and reporting...

The FOX group couldn't go away fast enough to suit me. FOX, the home of the " I know everything about everything, and l'll tell it to you whether you want it or not " Mike Joy, and the " pay attention to me ,pay attention to me " Waltrip brothers is finally gone.
Replaced by an easy to listen to and well informed Wally Dallenbach, a chatty cathy doll named Kyle Petty, and another guy who's not even worth remembering his name. Oh, and Larry McReynolds is still around. Who is he sleeping with to stay in the broadcasting business?
My picks for best all time tv race announcers,
Neil Bonnett
Benny Parsons
Bob Jenkins
Buddy Baker
Ned Jarrett
Larry Nuber
Of the newer guys I like
Dale Jarrett
Andy Petree
Allen Bestwick
Andy Petree
What most on the list have in common is actual racing experience, and they don't spend every second on self promotion.Last edited by Matt Albee; 06-10-2013, 04:03 PM.

Larry Nuber was as good as it got in his time. He paid a very dear price for extolling Jeff Gordon for what he was at the time in question. It is a shame that people who know of what they speak are punished for what is the political correctness of what they say. No I am not a Gordon fan but at that time he was much like Kyle Larson today, a winner in any type car on any surface. RIP Larry and I enjoyed Thursday Night Thunder except Voglers unfortunate wreck. While I am at it Rip to him as well.

Ah, Eli Gold. Back in the day when I couldn't get MRN in my hometown hearing Eli's iconic voice meant I was at the Speedway. Always gave me chills. Later when I could finally get MRN, I would often turn off the sound on the TV and turn on MRN. With the cast of clowns shoved down our throat with TV today I think it is time to do that again. The Jenkins/Nuber/Parsons/Punch combo was the best in the business. As far as female announcers/reporters go, I like Wendy Venturini. She has the knowledge, family pedigree and is not just another mind-numbing, history-ignorant blonde bimbo like most of the rest.

Two more guys that come to mind...
The original NASCAR broadcaster, with an incredible voice - Bob Montgomery
and one of my favorites, opinionated as all get out and a voice like nails on a chalkboard, but he really knew the sport - Sir Jackie Stewart...

Spencer use to be pretty good, but now he's just another goofball that needs to go job hunting with that POS Rutledge Wood.
Also, I'm not a sexist, but has there EVER been a female racing announcer that's even close to talented? Not that I can remember.
