  • Mall Show 2-9-86

Desoto Speedway used to have a Mall show at the begining of each year to spot light the cars built over the off season and awarded Plaques to deserving Drivers. Some of the Audio has been lost but keep in mind its almost 30 years old! Click to watch.

Those were the days of PROMOTING . Wonder how many people at the mall said they were gonna go to the next race. I live in Bradenton and I can tell you there are people in this town that dont know the track is even there!

In defense of the short tracks and promoters in Florida, getting the message out about racing is pretty difficult. For example, to exhibit race cars in any shopping mall in the state, you'd have to call the mall and get a date. Then you'd have to call some racers and ask them to display their cars. Then you as the promoter might even show up at the mall and help answer questions and promote the show.
Now really, what track owner or promoter should be expected to put in that much effort.
