    For immediate release.

Gaffney, SC -- 12 year old Zack Mitchell (Enoree, SC) lived up to his nickname "Kid Quick" Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway by becoming the youngest City Late Model winner in the track's history. Mitchell led flag to flag in the 12 car feature that included veterans John Pursley, Charlie Walker and Douglas Davis.

I don't know whether to be amazed, amused or scared out of my mind. Clearly video games have become too realistic.

It's no secret I don't like kids in racecars, but I do know that John Pursley is no slouch of a racer. It does take talent to beat him.

          Kids In Racing

That is amazing, but there is no reason in the world that a kid should be driving something that powerful before they are at least 16 years old! He can't even make decisions for himself yet. What do you think the answer is going to be when dear old dad asks a 12 year old if he wants to drive a race car. There is no way that this kid fully understands the dangers involved, period!

How do they get so skilled so quick? Is it the time spent on simulators that trains them?

To young to know what the real dangers are and how serious it can really be but still impressive.

                "Kid Quick"

Amazing - Yes, but not many can do what this kid has done. At that age there is no fear what-so-ever.. Never would have put my kid there, but I'm sure his parents are comfortable with what they are doing and I wish them well.
I remember when we all went to East Bay (many many years ago) to see a 13 year old drive a sprint car.. the kid came from Ohio and lapped most of the field. That 13 year old was Jeff Gordon (not my favorite), but he sure had us in awe way back then.

They are few and far between, but some have the ability to pull it off.
Good luck to "Kid Quick" and I hope to see him go far with his racing.

Hey, I just thought about something.. I think I still had training wheels on my bike when I was 13. I remember my Dad removing them when I cam home from boot camp.

                  i agree....in a way.....

the kid is awesome but i do think they need to stay kids longer.... when the first young kid dies in a late model then we will see changes and we will sure hear an explosion of WHYS!!!!!!!!! Parents... let your kids be kids. being a racer of his stature requires ALOT of time. it should be play time with other children. but thats just the mother side of me talking. as a race fan i am in awe of this kid... but still sorry he isnt climbing a tree with other kids.
then there is the other side.... he will most likely be drug free and graduate... most of our young guns are and do........the reason being they are spending quality time with their dads and other family members.....
its kinda like a catch 22......i think 15-16 is a more reasonable age to race a late model car....just an opinion... maybe im wrong.

I think you can throw the (mommy's little boy) theory out the window when he out wheeled John Pursley (finished 2nd) at his home track. John has won almost every LM and SLM race i've been to this year between his fri night and sat tracks. I'm not sure how many exactly.....but a bunch. That's why i thought it was impressive and wanted to share.

who knows whats best... (to Benny)

you know Benny...i sure do understand your post and i understand Zack has worked his way to where he is. maybe im looking at this all wrong. maybe thats why most of us dont remember being little or maybe what we remember wasnt so great to remember. these kids like your boy Zack and Ross Chastain, BJ McCleod, Kittleson,Dustin Dunn, Tyler Lainge, Middleton etc etc (there are so many)... now they have things to look back on and tell their grandchildren about. they can say they had a dad that was always there for them./ that sweat blood and gave up so much.... they can talk about things most young boys can only dream about...I know Ross Chastain will ALWAYS remember his grandmother taking hundreds of pics in the winners circle and mom, dad, and brother running down to congratulate him.... My goodness...this kid must be so self confident and feel so loved!! very seldom do you see kids like that become involved in drugs or booze... most of them dont smoke... they usually graduate... maybe ive been looking at this all wrong... so maybe times have changed and we need to adjust rather than to hold back... just a thought.. thanks for opening my eyes benny!
