  • Do any tracks have ambulances?

How about a quick survey? Do any Florida tracks still use ambulances that are staffed and capable of transporting patients? Years ago the answer was yes, but lately I don't remember seeing this. Do you think most tracks have replaced the staffed ambulance with EMTs? NSS keeps an ambulance in the infield and running during the races, but I hear that this one can't leave the property, is that true?

Lets not bash any track or operator. Instead, can we gather some information?

I know the tracks are caught between rising costs and liability issues regarding care. I don't envy the job!

They should have a dedicated ambulance on site. Most insurance companies require it. Not all but most do. It is costly but what is a lawsuit or worse a bad injury worth? Not only for the racers but the fans also. Showtime has one on site all the time. Every track should!

The Florida Sports park does for The Swamp Buggy Races full rig. Swamp Buggy pays Collier County for a fully staffed rig. And after Glenn Chesser flipped and EMS was dealing with a fan. They went and paid Collier County to also man a tent for the fans

I have no way to verify it but a promoter/owner told me that his insurance did not require an ambulance because the track was within an acceptable to a hospital. I wonder if this is now an acceptable clause with all insurance companies or just the one he is using.

I have not been there yet this year, but last year Marion County Speedway had an actual Marion County ambulance crew right there at the track. Last time I was at Showtime there was an actual Pinellas Park ambulance there, but it didn't arrive until the heats were almost over. At East Bay I don't know for sure that they have an outside ambulance there, but there is a state trooper and they have real first responders with the proper gear on the trucks in the infield.

It has been about 8 or 10 years ago, but when I was racing in Ohio, , they wouldn't even let us hot lap till a ambulance was on sit. Really surprised me when I moved here that a lot of tracks here don't have one

Showtimes ambulance is track owned now I think. There was a Pinellas county bus there but this last month Robert had one that looked like it was either his or private owned. Craig Clark has a company called Track Rescue and he used to be at several tracks around the area. His people are highly trained in Motor sports rescue. I don't think you need an ambulance as much as you need qualified people with the equipment and ability to effect a rescue and to stabilize
                  the patient.

                    Lakeland...

When Craig was there Lakeland had by far the best emergency crews anywhere.. I agree that ALL tracks should have an ambulance on hand...

I'm from Chassisdudes generation. At our tracks up north, no one turned a lap before an ambulance was on hand. Ocaasionally, a driver or fan needed to be transported, and the races were Red Flagged until a new ambulance was on-site. NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

It used to be that way down here. Some of these "track owned" ambulances can't leave the track property, making the trip to the hospital even longer. Not good for the patient. billy

Beaches don't have lifeguards anymore either. It was found that if someone drowned while lifeguards were on duty, the lawyers would sue and say the lifeguard didn't do his/her job, and could sue for millions. If there are no lifeguards, and you "swim at your own risk", the liability actually drops.

If the track had an ambulance, and someone was to get hurt, the assumed responsibility for health care falls on the track. If you race at your own risk, the track assumes less responsibility.

Racetracks don't have an ambulance at the races because of the cost. They are expensive and they do nothing but sit on their asses in their ambulance and wait for somebody to get hurt. It's usually two fat lesbian chicks with Taco Bell on their breath and sticky hands from eating ice cream sandwiches.

Ok, try to concentrate and get back to the question. We're doing a survey here.
