  • FUPS Tire Impound

To all competitors in the SLM FUPS Series, effective Sat 5/4 at Auburndale we will go back to the Tire Impound procedure. All tires are to be purchased on Sat. at the track and will remain impounded until quailifying. We appreciate your cooperation with this issue and we feel that it is another step we must take to level the playing field for all competitors.

    ???

I have always wondered what is the reason behind
    a tire impound procedure.
Could you please explain what it does.
    Thanks Rick M

Usually the reason for a tire impound is because someone thinks that someone is doing something with them.

All your going to do by impounding is lower the car count. Several cars would race on tires they allready have, especialy at such a short track, now they can't race without buying tires from this track.

does that mean you are going to check them personally before they are mounted because some tires are treated way in advance before you get there and then you may impound them but its already to late or maybe you should pick there tires out for them and then impound them. that way some of the snakes can't cheat before you ever arrive at the track. or just allow soaking so everyone has the same opportunity not just the owners of some tracks

why are tracks making such a big deal out of soaking tires in the past few years?
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

The intended reason is that we keep hearing that teams are soaking and it is our job to catch'em. We feel that going to the impound will deter them from this process. We want all tire purchase's to be done on Sat. at the track, once they are mounted they will be kept in an assigned area until time to quailfy. If you are a team that does not always purchase tires for each race and has older tires they plan on racing on, they will bring them to our tech director and they will be impounded as well. We are not saying you have to purchase tires! IT IS NOT THE INTENT TO DRIVE TEAMS AWAY but to keep everyone equal. We hear that tire impound keeps teams from racing and we hear that teams are soaking and we will not race against that. Well here it is boys & girls let's see who shows and who doesn't, your choice!

If you guys think he's cheating, be a man and walk up to his car before qualifying and durometer his tires, they should be the same as all the others. I would wear a helmet because you might get your head pounded in by a 4'6" crewmember, although I heard he got he got beat up by a girl once. I think his name is Sean Dorer.

I have soaked tires for years and a gallon of Bite or Grip is a lot cheaper than 4 tires. I never could understand the big deal about soaking, just check for softness, pick a number , like 50 and let the guys soak and save a lot of money. I know all tires are different, but I have soaked both goodyears and hoosiers and would get three and four nights out of the tires and beat guys buying new tires everyweek. Really the cost of racing is what is killing our sport. I'm for real, son won track championship and owner bought 6 tires for the season which was 12 nights after rain-outs during the year. second place car's owned told us he bought 9 sets of tires. These where latemodel coil-over big motor cars on a medium banked 3/8 mile track.

                      Cheating

So plain and simple its cheating.
The top class in our sport has to have their tires Policed.
                      That is pathetic!
I watch the super lates too see the best of the best and to think that a FEW are no better than a MLB player doing steroids.
                      Disappointing to say the least.

And there you have the reason for the rule. If the racers save money by not having to buy tires, the track and the tire supplier lose. Same with the gas. If the racer saves money by purchasing race gas from somewhere besides the track, the track and the gas supplier lose money.
Anyone want to take a guess on which way the track rules will always go? At least as long as the tracks are selling tires and gas and can force the racers into buying their products.

This is some funny sh*t right here. Enforce the rules and try to address the complaints of competitors accusing others of cheating and it's a conspiracy to sell more tires. It's a wonder anyone wants to run a racetrack or series around here. From a racer's point of view I would much rather run at a track or in a series that actually ENFORCES the rules and thus gives me, the lowbuck guy, a chance to compete. True, a gallon of tire softener is cheaper than a set of tires, but four new soaked tires every race will outrun your old soaked tires EVERY NIGHT. Even with the unstable economy there are still racers with enough money to try and outspend you at every turn. The bottom line is that if you will actually enforce the rules more racers will come out to race because they will feel that they have a chance. Let the cheater crybabies stay home if they get their feathers ruffled. The sport is better without them anyway. People can crap on FUPS all they want, but Rick listens to the racers and does his best to give us what we want as a whole. The proof of the success is that all of the FUPS divisions car counts (while not spectacular) are blowing the car counts out of the water of those tracks that have decided to go it without them.

New or old use the durometer on front straight away while they are having driver introductions. If a guy knows he has a chance without buying new tires every race he will show up, get off your soap box and think man
