Correction: OWM winner got $400 last night. I finished 4th for $125....
Payouts are posted on NSS web page.

Weekly mods up north have been getting $2500 to win as far back as late 1980's...Heck,you get $200-300 to win in a dirt thunder stock with street tires at PCS,$100 just to start.
You deserve so much more...no wonder pits are empty!

I grew up in the panhandle and caught a lot of races at 5 Flags. I can't remember if they ran weekly in the 80's and 90's, but I know that they run every other week now. And they alternate with Mobile. Both are half mile tracks. Maybe it's just too expensive for the racer to run on a half mile track every week? Has NSS ever ran every other week? Maybe it's time to flip flop with Orlando.

As a fan,I think Speed World is going in the right direction. Hope some folks give the place a second look.

          GREAT ENTERTAINMENT FOR $12 !!

I only get over to NSS a few times a year, but that track was always been one of the premiere short tracks in the South. Man, what happened over there??
I've read a lot on this board about possible ways to get NSS going again, but honestly I think you have to look at the management when a business isn't performing. Every move they make over there seems like it's purposely designed to make things worse, and with that kind of car count, it's obviously working. I'd say the owner of NSS should take a real hard look at firing the management and starting over with qualified people.
I'm just hoping that Full Throttle Speedway can be brought back again. It won't be easy with a dumb name like that, but I hope for the best. I've already seen a lot of changes out there.

I doubt NSS brings in enough money on race nights to pay purses like that. And many other tracks are in the same situation. Doing some quick arithmetic, almost nobody in the stands X $12 dollars per person at the gate. Then add almost no cars in the pits X $35 per person at the back gate.
Then subtract EMS service, electric, employees salaries, etc.
So the answer is to bring in sponsors (partners and stakeholders in marketing speak ) to pay the bills and allow decent purses to be paid. Of course i'm not talking about the local lawn mower repair shop sponsoring the E-Mod class for a couple of hundred a week. That helps, and also gets the community involved. But i'm talking about large national chains that have promotional budgets. You'll never see the France family dig into their own pocket to pay anything at the track, it's ALL done with corporate sponsorship. I've heard they could give away every grandstand ticket for every race and it wouldn't have any effect on the racing because all of the purse for every race is paid for by marketing partners.

With all due respect; why in the world would a company want to sponsor a track with very low attendance and car count?

If it had been done correctly over the years, there would be plenty of cars and fans. Home Depot, McDonalds, AT&T, Burger King, Bank of America, and many others would be on the billboards and in the programs as race sponsors. All of those companies have local branches and are looking for ways to bring in new customers. They sponsor plenty of things locally in every community, why not at the local race track?
It might just be too late to get sponsors on board, but a good marketing person can do it. Hell, the marketing guys can sell the boring NASCAR CUP series to big sponsors. Now that's a sales job.

Once again I think we make the mistake getting lulled into thinking that NSS cares about their weekly program...My thinking is that they cash in during the big shows to get them through the rest of the year.

if that's all you saw in this thread, you might want to read it again. You missed a lot.
And while 1 extra car and 1 extra spectator would qualify as up when you're talking about OSW, there's still a long way to go for it to be even an average short track. It's been driven into the ground, just like NSS.
I got an e-mail from a friend last night who was reading this thread. He wanted to let me know that the local minor league ball park has 57 billboards around the park. Advertising everything from Metro PCS to local air conditioning companies to casino cruises. And even an airport from another city. Pretty much the same size crowd as a busy night at a short track i would think , so why don't local tracks have the same type of support.

                              Marketing directors?

My guess is that most real good marketing directors already have a good job, and really have zero love for a Sat. night Stock Car race. Sadly....
