It all comes down to the rulebook. If rods have to weigh a specific amount with no plus or minus allowed, then that's the way it is. If one rod or all eight are under by any amount then they're illegal. Doesn't make any difference at all if there is a performance advantage or not.
I don't think anyone would believe this particular incident was anything more than sloppy engine building. But if you're caught illegal, you pay the price. On the plus side for all concerned, this penalty will be overturned or
    reduced significantly on appeal.

Through the post race inspection, Nascar officials discovered a part outside the mandatory requirements. They pass the information along and down goes the hammer.

That is the way it is, and everybody involved is aware of that.

This is Nascar sand box, and if, as a participant, you do not like the way they do things, you are welcome NOT to join the party.

It has nothing to do with being fair to XYZ. The rule state a number, you're outside. They don't care, and do not have to, who's fault it is. It's the car owner responsability to make sure everything is up the snuff in his shop, whether it'is being built there or from outside sources.

It's not to take side with Nascar, it's just the way it is.

        Out of sight

Seems to me that Ca$hcar is getting more like F-1, (Farce#1), every week, no wonder the stands aren't filled like they used to be, it ain't just the economy.

Agree 110%. That is what happens when corporation(s) takes over. The thing is run like a corporation, not a sport.

Racers are a funny group. On a local level they'll complain to no end about a lack of tech. But when it comes to a big national series where everyone should know better because they're GETTING PAID to do this everyone wants to give nascar a hard time for enforcing the rules.

I have no idea who/what funds the drivers point fund, but at the rate we are going it would seem that the car owners and their team members will be responsible for a significant portion. I guess that means they are not racing for the money to be won through points but rather how much their rebate will be. As close to April 15 as this is does anyone see a coincidence.

He still hasn't paid the fine - he can't afford to. Ernie Elliott built the motor, but *he* wasn't the one penalized.
Yes, Carl Long got screwed also. I don't have an issue with tech and being penalized if found illegal. I just feel the penalty should fit the crime and in these two instances, I feel it doesn't. I also agree the win should be taken away and the next legal car should be awarded the win. In this instance no one gets the win and that could possibly cost the 2nd place finisher a chance at the "Chase". Oh, and God forbid, you say anything bad about the Gen6 cars.

There's more to this story than 1 light rod! Thats just what they are telling the public/media. I would say it goes a lot deeper. been around race engines too long.
