  • Speed World Press Release

I know this should be under events, but most everybody just checks here and there is some info that needs to get out there...

SUPER LATES BACK AT SPEEDWORLD & IF THE CARS SHOW UP - SPEEDWORLD WILL STEP IT UP $$$-WISE

After a rainout last Friday night that was just a precursor of a very wet weekend in Central Florida, Orlando SpeedWorld is back in action this Friday and the weatherman is promising a Chamber of Commerce forecast this time.
It was announced this week that the track is stepping up its effort to attract a bigger field of cars by raising purses providing the race teams Increase their participation. If 15 or more cars are entered, the purse for the top three positions will double for that class. This affects all classes with the exception of Super Late Models, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros.
Providing there are 15 cars entered, the purse for the Modifieds, E-Modifieds and Pro Trucks will increase to $500-320-220 for the top-three finishing spots. The Mini Stock purse for the top three would increase to $400-200-160 and the Super Stocks would see an increase to $300-160-140.
The Super Late Model purse will remain the same, plus they will be the class eligible for national and regional points in the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series. Information on the Pro Plate Model purse will be forthcoming.
Competing this Friday night will be the Super Late Models, E-Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Mini Stocks, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros. Although the Strictly Stocks normally just race for a trophy, the track is putting up $100 this week plus is bringing back the "Fan Fun Race" where fans can donate into the purse as well and be eligible for nice door prizes for doing so.
Pit gates open Fiday afternoon at 4 pm, grandstand gates open at 6 pm and racing begins at 8 pm. Adult admission is $12 and kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

      Before everybody starts commenting....

We know this is just a "drop in the bucket" as far as purses go, but everything does help... at least Ozzy is trying to do something and if the teams begin to show their support, things can only get better...

The track is advertising on K-92 this week and plans are to place ads on 580 AM in Orlando, the new ESPN station as well... I also suggested to Wes to put ads on WMEL 1300 AM in Brevard County as they carry all the NASCAR Sprint Cup races...

Word of mouth is still the best advertising and the way to get cars to the track... You guys that are racing need to talk to the ones that aren't and let them know that the track is trying its best to improve things but can't do it alone...

If you have any suggestions, criticisms, ideas, complaints or "atta-boys" for the track management, rather than post on here, e-mail them to me at announcerdave@usa.net and I will pass them along to Wes and Ozzy...

Also, if you are not on our e-mail list and want to be, send me your e-mail and I will include you in all mailings...

I am having trouble with the e-mails for the following people: Chris Stanton, Dave Gleason, Scott Bertram and Randy Froelich... Please send me another e-mail as I probably just copied your information incorrectly...

Remember, you are never going to make money racing but hopefully you are at least having fun doing it... We are trying to make racing fun again at Orlando SpeedWorld... So, do me a favor... If you aren't coming out to have a good time with your hobby... stay home... We are looking for drivers and race teams that want to have a good time and enjoy a night of competition and fun...

That is no drop in the bucket. Wouldn't it be great if the racers respond and the track has to pay the extra $$! The fans, the drivers and the track all would benefit long in the long run.

Speaking as a business owner and Supporter of two late models and a sportsman, We would love to run Orlando on a regular basis. There is no way for us to do that on Fridays. I believe a saturday show would bring more fans and cars. JMO

As a display of my affection for the class I sponsor, the bando purse will DOUBLE for the rest of the season!

Don't let my non-sense confuse the real press release from Speedworld. Remember, they are doubling pay for the top 3 finishers if the class has at least 15 cars.....good plan!

They need to up the Super purse at least to NSS's purse. THe purse at Orlando has been the same for years, but the price to run a car has increased considerablity.. I'm not running for a Regional/National Championship, so I don't see where running for that matters as the reason for not raising the purse. Independents like me who don't have sponsors it would sure help. My modified costs just as much to run as my SLM, so that's great to hear (long overdue, Thanks). So I hope they reconsider and at least go to a little higher payout, at least match NSS. I know they are trying and that's great. Just wish the fan count would pick up. I think the Saturday nite show that was talked about would have worked (at least tried). I live around the 417 and 50 area and I made the mistake of taking Colonial/50 to the track Friday and it took me an hour (11 miles) to get the track. The traffic was terrible. So that's got to hurt the fan count. It's starting to turning into Drag racing ,on a regular basis, where it is just a competitor sport and no fan base sport.
