  • New Smyrna's new kart track

I took my two boys up to race at the opening night of New Smyrna's new dirt karting track. What a nice facility! Everyone was friendly and in a good mood, so we had a lot of fun.

As it turned out, I had one of my kids in a new kart with a bad set-up, and my other boy was wound tight and driving kind of wild. Between the two of them, I bet they ran into everything that either moves or sits still out there. The next night, they were looking good at another track, but boy, their first visit to Community Kart Club was a handful.

Suggestion: have a flagman on the track to direct the kids. They couldn't understand the starter in the starters stand. Maybe experienced racers could, but these were kids.

We'll be back in 4 weeks!

Sounds like a flagman on the track would have been mowed down by one of the baby bonemen. LOL ! Hey, I got an idea who could be a guest of honor flagman. He loves racing and don't live too far from the track. Just EZ stirring the pot.

I meant have a flagman on the track to help them get lined up. Mine were much more calm under yellow, so the starter would have a fighting chance at escape. Actually, all 5 kids in that race were pretty unpredictable.

The next night, we had a feature win, and a much better result for both. Those kids are gonna be good shoes!

            Wrong and even more wrong.

Here is the big picture: they have been racing for 2 years, and they are 9 and 10. The plan is for them to hone their craft in karts for another 4 years or so. By then, maybe I'll be ready to meet them in the Legend class or something similar, and we can all race together.

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, I really like EZ's suggestion.

If it were to happen it would surely 'lure' me out there that night...!

By then they''ll be over the hill compared to all the other brats racing on daddy's money. Come on dad be like all the rest how else are they gonna make the big time? Oh that's right you are a dad with common sense I'm not used to that these days.
