    Don't they run them on a weekly basis now? Seems like I heard they were. They changed the track from dirt to asphalt (again) but kept the dirt cars. Seems to have worked. I think Oswego tried running a 358 program on asphalt with dirt tires last fall.

      Why? run dirt tires?,I understand the car deal, but not the tire? Don't dirt tires ware out super fast on black top?running cost way up or is that wrong.

        Don't know this for sure, but I'd think that worn out dirt tires would work better on asphalt that new tires would. They can get MORE races out if a set of tires than if they went to another dirt track where you would need fresh tires.

        Seems like getting more races on your tire budget, rather than an extra expense.

        I've often thought that the Ellisville track would do good to invite the Lake City (dirt) cars there for a few shows a year. Lots of dirt cars in that area compared to pavement cars. Dirt cars only, dirt tires only.

        That way they'd get more races out of tires that they would normally have to toss to the curb.

          Yes They run them weekly, from early May to late September.

          Yes they had a special event at Oswego, don't know when exactly, but heard about it.

          Yes this track has been dirt...paved.... dirt ...paved, but it is paved since a long time now. I know for sure since '95 it's paved Bcause I was there in '95 for an asphalt show, and the track was operated then by Curley//Squier, the ACT//Thunder Road owner//operator. It was sold to the new group in about 2004..'05 and stayed paved. Mike Perrotte run the whole operation. Very good guy, does a fantastic job orchestrating the whole thing.

          The tire thing is simple. This is DIRT Motorsport Country. There are 62 gazillions 358 Dirt Mods in that area, including Québec and Ontario. The game WAS to take those guys that races Friday on dirt, bring them there Saturday on pavement, and then cut them loose so they can go race Sunday somewhere else on dirt......without changing the whole car over, and having a trailer load of tire.

          The tire wear is pretty good. They run 30 laps feature, so if your car has good handling, you can do decent on your tires. BUT, like everywhere else, some don't even look at them, they just buy new one(s) every week, for Right Rear at least. The front ones last longer, if your car handles good.

          The durometer on those tires is comparable and or harder to many asphalt slicks.

          They only drawback I saw is the technology is taking over, like everywhere else. What was not to happen is happening. Car builder(s) saw an opportunity and stepped on it. Now the Dirt Mod car builder(s) are building Airborne Special, that makes a regular Dirt Mods obsolete in competition: upside down 3 points rear suspension set up, state of the art front sway bar set up, ultra low watts linkage type panhard bar front and rear, lower fuel cell, lower body panel, so on and so forth. Can we blame them? No, it's their job and the car is still to the letter of the rule. Just not to the spirit of the rule.(Heard that somewhere lately)

          But racers are resourcefull and will find ways.

          On a final note: Big HP, not too much handling makes very entertaining racing. Go from there.

            Even more entertaining would be for the Ellisville SLMs to race at NFS a few times a year with their asphalt tires. That would be a show!
            Andre, the only problem I have with the " not much handling makes for entertaining racing " idea is the caution flag coming out every 2 laps because of single car spins and completely avoidable wrecks if only the cars handled better and/or had better traction. I get real tired of a 25 lap race taking close to an hour to complete because of cautions. And I've never met a race fan who doesn't feel the same way.

              One time at band camp, I read a circle track magazine. I did not see one of these contraptions. What exactly is it and where can I find a picture of one ?

                  not much handling makes for entertaining racing

                  When I say that, I do not mean sh()tboxes with 900 HP and wood tires. You know, those Mods are 40,000//50,000$ race cars and intended for Dirt racing with everything built accordingly, i.e.: high center of gravity, front straight axle, weirdo rear suspension, etc.. But in the right hands, and a competent driver with DRIVING SKILLS, they can corner and go d()mn fast on pavement. But things being what they are, they are not on a rail, so they slip and slide at a certain level, depending who runs it, which makes it interesting to watch.

                  As far as yellow flags are concerned, some racers spin out by themselves with F1, Indy Car, Cup car, all the way down to Jalopies. It's not the car, it's the driver(s). There are good drivers and there are idiots. The latest, you can sit in anything, somehow they will find a way to ruin it and make fool of themselves. That is a fact of life.
