Damn. That was taken in 1987, but I am still using the same air filters, and that looks like my 4 wheeler. Hey, I think that is my trailer too!

While we're at it:
Jim Childers, 1987, in the George Rudolph #68.

On the same exact night, Childers walked right over to my Dad's Late Model, and promptly went out and won the Late Model feature as well:

You don't see too much of this today (guys competing in multiple divisions and winning). I've only ever seen it done a few times: Scarborough, Wayne Reutimann, and Childers. One night at Golden Gate, the Sprint cars had been rained out from the previous week. They brought 'em back. Childers won three features in one night, in three distinctly different types of race cars, for three different car owners: he won the Late Model feature in our car; hopped into Norm Huntley's #48 and won the Sprint car feature; then, jumped into his #07 Super Six car, and went out and won *that* feature.

I saw Wayne Reutimann do the same at East Bay one night. He ran 4 features... he won in JB Gordons #700 in the Late Models, jumped in Gordons #00 Sprint car, a Super-6 (don't recall the #), and also a Southern Mod.
He won 3 of the 4, and finished I think 3rd in the only race he DIDN'T win.
3 wins, 4 top 3's, 4 different classes, at least 3 different owners.... THATS a wheelman...!

About that car in the top photo.
If I remember correctly , any sprint car junkies feel free to correct me, that car did not compete on a regular basis . Donnie Tanner used to race dirt late models at East Bay all season and then , once a year , he'd jump in that sprinter at Sunshine's Jim Haynes memorial and wax their asses . I always thought that was an impressive feat also.

Hmmm. Good question, as I can recall seeing that car with different drivers in it; most notably Scarborough. Was that Ledford's car?Originally posted by BVS40FL View PostIf I remember correctly , any sprint car junkies feel free to correct me, that car did not compete on a regular basis. But, yeah, when Tanner would get in it, he always ran good.
Oh - and by the way, the top pic (of Tanner) is at Sunshine.

How come in the picture it shows #30 in first place on the scoreboard?

That's correct.Originally posted by Frasson118 View PostWas it possibly Tom Chambers in the 80?

I'm gonna go with Scarborough. Probably '81 or '82. Childers chased him in both divisions at both tracks. Between Golden Gate and Sunshine, in our car (the Late Model), Childers and us won 36 features in the two seasons (averages out to about nine feature wins at each track, each season). If I can recall, Dave was driving either the #11 or the #5 Sprinter those two years ('81 and '82). Childers was in Huntley's #48.Ok the teas..wich one won both champinships in late model and sprints the same year??
Jimmy ur up.
Don62
And that was coming from the back of a 25-car (or more) field every week.
