  • Cracker 200...?

Any word on who is at New Smyrna for the Cracker 200? Mark posted a few names earlier in the week, but have heard zero about the race since then.

Hopefully someone who either went last night for practice, or is already there today, will fill us in. I'm on the fence of weather to go or not... I'd like to hear some encouraging news to sway my decision.

Speed51.com is reporting 12 cars for the Cracker 200? Just had some showers move through. Follow @ www.speed51.com

I'm guessing only 12 cars is the reason nobody has heard anything.

NSS is a class facility. They are trying hard, they have great officials, and a super good tech team. The car count was dowm in my opinion because of the live pit stops, most teams just cant afford it. The 5 grand to win for 200 laps was a little light to. If they would have run 100 laps for 5 grand to win, I think you would have seen 25-30 cars. Again great facility, officials, and tech team, just my two cents..... Cope, Grill, and Boyd were the class of the field. Grill ran Cope into the forth groove to win the race.

12 cars? Sounds like a FUPS show.
Looks like there were some good cars there though. I'ts possible that pit stops might have been a reason that more cars weren't there, but there has to be more to it than that. Somebody ( not the track ) really needs to spend a week or so driving around to see all of the possible entrants face to face, and discuss why they aren't coming to race. I say not the track personel because that could be part of the problem as well.
All i know is cars are out there and ready to race, look at Citrus. Look at Pensacola, there are cars that tow all the way from South and Central Florida to get there but don't show up at NSS even for special races.

FIrst of all 200 laps at the beginning of the season in FLorida is completely unnecessary........Most big teams up north are not going to travel to central Florida with a crew for 3 days to race for 5K.....
Secondly, most local Florida racers that race at Citrus or Auburndale or whoever is coming or going on the west coast don't race at NSS because it takes horsepower to be competitive and if you wreck, it tears up your car more than anywhere else.......Where is Anderson, Dorer, Webster, and the other big boys????? Too much risk for not enough reward..........there may be underlying factors as well, management, tech who knows.......
Webster is the perfect example.......he has raced at NSS many times, pretty sure he has never won......he has won everywhere else in Florida......he is a lower budget guy who is a great racer and has many wins in big fields.......

Anyway, thats why I think Orlando could become a much better racetrack....it is the perfect size for short track racing and is still fast and fun......we'll see i guess

Put the pencil to it 10 tires 1600$ more or less, haul and stay over cost 500$ entry 125$

2225$ and we have not paid our way in yet. The money to race just is not there any more. A normal working man can't do it anymore. NSS did call me and asked us to go and were very understanding as to why we could not go.

                    The money comes and goes.
The trophy we get to keep.

First off I thought you said you were not bad mouthing the FUPS! The first words out of your mouth was of that! You really are clueless and most definitely do not own or ever have owned a race car! For that matter have ever been involved with a race team! If these sort of car counts and such bother you that much then don't go! You probably don't anyway! Were you at New Symrna last night? Probably not! So give it a rest! If you can't see that money is the big reason for these teams not showing up for these races in numbers then you need to stay under that rock you live under! Why don't you just sponsor a car for the complete weekend/season and see how many races you attend in the coarse of the year! You will probably be lucky to go to 2 or 3 races and that is just sponsoring not owning The team also! Before you open your mouth and bitch, put yourself in their shoes. Put the money up or shut up!
