Why did Smyrna go to8 nights instead of the usual 9 during Speedeeks?

Because of NASCAR running the "Dabacle at the Beach" (Battle at the Beach) at Daytona on a temporary short track on the backstretch. The Whelen Modified Tour ran on Tuesday and New Smyrna shut down that night so that the Mods could go over there and run. A lot of people though that would have a "trickle down" effect and bring more Mods to NSS but it didn't turn out that way. It seemed like there were less Mods at NSS than ever before. Daytona drew a whopping 33 cars though. -
And of course any time New Smyrna wants to put on a race in direct competition with one at DIS, NASCAR will happily give their racers the night off to go race at NSS. LOL
I've read lot's of excuses and fantasy explanations for why the majority of Tour Mods raced at DIS and then went home instead of racing at NSS.Comment
