We're going to drive down to Titusville to check out a space shuttle launch tomorrow. Any advice on best viewing spots, tips or information? Any tidbits would be appreciated....
Find a place where you can drive on the beach. It's beautiful going over the water. Get us plenty of pictures. Here's where the Sentinel says is good places.
I live on Merritt Island and usually watch it from my frontyard but I love to go to the port also and watch. Titusville is usually very packed so if you are going there, better get there early. I know they blocked off alot of the spaces where people use to watch from so I really don't know where to go there anymore. But alot of people park off 528 along the river between Cocoa and Cocoa Beach and watch.
We did the boat thing about 15 years ago. Having the shuttle go over your head is the bomb. The ocean actually vibrated.
Then drifting into the restricted area is a whole new experience to deal with.
Next day we watched the boosters arriving back at the port with the nose cones on the rear deck.NEATO !! Do it if you can.

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.
Rax.. I watch it from my yard as well.. I live in NSB... It may not be the greatest view... But No crowds, cheap beer.. Hmmm LOL... Hey if you get this, Don't forget to go to New Smyrna Speedway tonight.. Not only are the reg classes there, but the Mods R running 50... I will be in the grandstand... Just look for a tall Blond guy in the first row of backed above the Start/Finish area.. Actually directly above the beer House... LOL... Can't wait to get the car done so I am on the other side again...
I used to live on Merritt Island. I had a friend that used to de-skin the boosters when they got back to the Spacecenter. The outer skins are held on with these cool titanium bolts that have very thin, tapered heads. The threaded end of the bolt has an "allen" depression that is used to hold the bolt from rotating while the nut is tightened. He used to bring me handfulls of those since they never re-used them. The Shuttle is the baddest machine ever built.
