Anybody notice how Jimmy Johnson destroyed the nose of his car after the race and even nosed it towards the outside wall but stopped short. Chad said they worked on single car speed all week, not the draft. Makes me wonder if they did something to the nose to make it faster. Hope they check the busted up pieces.

I was actually at Daytona all weekend......more for work than being a fan of NASCAR......but I happened to walk through tech this morning .......you should see the templates they use.......these things engulf the entire car......they check every gap on every angle on those cars......they aren't the single blade templates any more.......if they cheated the nose.....Chad Knaus is the new Smokey Yunick........
I also noticed that it took a lot longer for the pack to chase down single cars than it used to.........
By the way...I have no favorite drivers......completely unbiased

Knaus has been compared to Smokey for *years*.Originally posted by fred23 View PostI was actually at Daytona all weekend......more for work than being a fan of NASCAR......but I happened to walk through tech this morning .......you should see the templates they use.......these things engulf the entire car......they check every gap on every angle on those cars......they aren't the single blade templates any more.......if they cheated the nose.....Chad Knaus is the new Smokey Yunick........
Compare Smokey in '67 and Knaus in '06.
Smokey, '67, after going through tech after qualifying with that cheated-up 15/16ths scale Chevelle - that fit every "stock" template that NASCAR had at the time: NASCAR tells Smokey to load it up and head home - with the fuel cell on the ground outside of the car. Gazaway told Smokey he had to fix 15 things on the car to make it legal. Smokey said, "Ya better make that 16", and drove off *with the fuel cell still sittin' on the ground*. He had run 2-inch fuel line all through the roll cage that held seven gallons of fuel. The car never ran another race.
Knaus, in '06, after qualifying, gets caught with a device to crank the rear window/top of the roof down flat to reduce the drag down the straightaways, and then crank it back up to get air to the spoiler in the corners for downforce. Result? Jimmie gets sent to the rear of his 150, but makes the race anyways (based on the Top 35 rule), ends up winning the 500 that year, *aaaaand* ends up winning the championship. That car should have NEVER been allowed to unload the rest of the week that week and been sent packin' back up I-95/I-85 north.

Yea as soon as I saw him hit he grass and bend up the nose, then go almost to the wall to do a "nose" burnout, I was wondering the same thing. I think with the millions of dollars in sponsorships these days . They are not gonna park anyone for a rule violation , but they will for a on track incident . I feel he's Nascars golden boy anyways. I will give it to him though, he's a good driver....and definitely not my favorite.

Why would you trust them?
When I saw him bust up the nose I figured something was up. They aren't just the most accused team in the garage, they are also the most guilty.
On another note.....Did you see Ray Lewis chatting it up with Rick Hendrick after the race? 2 guys who should have gone to jail, bought their way out of it, and made millions laughing in the face of authority.

Ray Lewis was chatting it up with Rick Hendrick?? Oh that is too funny...
They tech the crap out of those cars, I'm not saying that there aren't teams doing "things", but damn they gotta be good to skirt nascar tech... But for how much money Chad gets paid, he better sit there for 50 hours a week and think of something...

All of them noses are bought with nascar seals built into them, they cannot be doctored without it being noticable by the competition. That is the last place they would try to cheat now... all of the composite components are pretty much untouchable by the teams except for mounting points. and the nose and about half the front fenders is all one piece.

These nose pieces must be made by the same people who make the critical bolts for the crate motors.Originally posted by carowner73 View PostAll of them noses are bought with nascar seals built into them, they cannot be doctored without it being noticable by the competition.
