Probably not, they're too busy having full pit areas and packed grandstands up north to bother with Florida.
A Friday night or Sunday track would be great. With every track in the state fighting for Saturday night I think you could have a great show on some other day of the week!

Desoto was a NASCAR track in 1986 when the Kings owned it and stayed that way threw stims.
Sunshine Joind the next year after dan Jones left.
Desoto speedway is the best track to race on in the state. Hope they get it back on its feet. That was my home for many years good luck to the new owners

I thought it was '87' but I could be wrong....just knew Margi was the one who brought NASCAR in...

But Don's right.
At one time, DSP was by far the best facility in the state to race at, track surface or facility-wise. And there was so much more potential that was never realized.
Stimus was a great "promoter" that knew absolutely nothing about racing. And I mean NOTHING. BUT...he sure knew how to put people's butts in the seats. I guess what it all boiled down to is that he was a great salesman and he knew how to cater his product to a specific target audience. His only downfall was what he did with the money he made AFTER it came through the tracks gates....but that's another story.

Still and all, there really was nothing wrong with his business plan. It was, by far, the most successful few years I think I've ever seen here in Florida.....I should probably retract that last statement as maybe there were other tracks at that time that enjoyed overflowing grandstands and full fields with awesome payouts.....but I can't remember any.

Maybe the new owners can "channel" some of his promoting-mojo and bring the old girl back to life. Someone mentioned Jimmy Cope. I think Jimmy could pull it off. He has racing knowledge, business experience, has contacts with some well-to-do people and is still a very marketable name to associate with a Florida short track. Whoever it is, although, will have a pretty daunting task ahead. These last ten or so years have not been very kind to the lady...she is badly in need of a facelift and some other cosmetic surgery.
But, with the right person, it can be done.


And who knows, Uncle Don....maybe the rabbit was just sleeping?
