  • fatal accident at the Little 500

One of the track workers was hit by a sprint car during last nights race. The race was red flagged so he could be attended to. They put him in the ambulance and at one point, the crowd cheered so I though he may have waved or something. The track never reported his condition, and I guess we all assumed he would be ok. Then I read the news today....

Its a very sad post script to what was otherwise an very entertaining and exciting race.

Drivers...be careful out there. This fatal accident happened under a yellow. Workers...don't turn your backs on us.

    Anderson Speedway Family Suffers Loss

The Anderson Speedway family mourns the loss of veteran track crew member, Roy Hiatt. Roy lost his life Saturday night during the running of the Pay Less Little 500 when he was struck by a sprint car on the track. Roy had been a loyal member of the track crew for many years and was well regarded by the fans, competitors and fellow workers.

“Words cannot begin to describe the devastation we feel at this time,” said Rick Dawson, President of the Speedway. “Roy was a great friend and integral part of our crew. Roy loved this place and he unselfishly worked hard for the track and fans to insure they were given the best shows.”

Arrangements are pending and will be posted here when available.

“We do not understand why terrible things like this happen. We must believe that there is a higher being that has a better plan and someday we will all know what that plan is. We will all pull together and get through this tough time and insure that Roy’s legacy will survive here at the Speedway as Roy would have definitely wanted”, Dawson further said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Roy’s family and many friends during their time of need”.

Great time to be in Indiana, minus the fatality at Anderson Speedway.
Do tell about the tracks, cars, stars, and the races.............

Anderson Speedway had the Little 500,
O'Rielly Indianapolis Raceway Park had the USA Modifieds and Midgets,
Indianapolis Fairgrounds Speedway had the Hoosier 100 for Sprints,
and a host of others in that area running as well.

Know your time was limited and all, but what have you seen? Was it fun?
Did you sing along with Jim Neighbors "Back Home Again in Indiana"? LOL
      r.
