By process of elimination, I'm throwing out anyone who has never spent time in a Sprint or Silver Crown car.... there goes 29 of them right off the bat.... leaving 4.

John Andretti did pretty well in USAC Midgets, and has great credentials in both Indy and Nascar, but he only got that far because of his last name.... leaving 3.

Ed Carpenter had a few good runs in a Silver Crown car a few years back, but he's there becuase of his extremely rich and influential step-father... Tony George himself. Which leaves me 2.

Sarah Fisher is a true racer. She had a lot of good runs in All-Star Sprint action, and is truly talented. But, she got to Indy because of the whole "diversity" program. The IRL needed a female racer, and Sarah was a good choice. If Sarah ever had a shot with quality equipment, I think she'd impress some people.... leaving my one favorite for this race.

After racing Supermodifieds all over the country, including right here at Volusia Speedway, Davey Hamilton got an IRL ride for all the (original) intentions that Tony George had. A short track guy, without a bazillion dollars, a famous last name, or a real fat checkbook that could run the Indy 500 beacuse he was a TALENTED RACER. In my opinion, he is the ONLY one inthe field that earned his way up the ladder to Indy.

As unlikely as a win would be, it would be a boost for the entire Short-track community across the country if one of "our" guys won the biggest race of them all!

I'm with CW on this one. I'd like to see Helio get it.

Danica winning would be great for the series but except for the eye candy part, I just plain don't like her.

Speaking of old age showing, AB195 mentioned Salt Walther above among other Indy drivers from back in the day.

In the early 70's, I had morphed my welding business into building custom exhaust systems on collector cars, street rods, etc. At the time of Salt Walther's famous crash at Indy in 73, I was coincidentally refurbing the exhaust system on his mother's Cord 812 Roadster in St Petersburg.

His mom lived in a beautiful home in Pinellas Point in South St Petersburg right on the bay. I never met him but his mom was a sport! Real nice lady.

Another piece of related trivia; anybody remember Terry Allen? The figure eight racer from SS during the 70's? Terry and I were good buds. Terry owned and operated a couple of Standard Oil Gas Stations in Pinellas County and one in Tampa at the time. He performed all of the service, etc. on the Cord I'm referring to at his station in Pinellas Point. It was Terry that recommended me for the work on the Cord.

Another great Sunshine Speedway racer gone but not forgotten. Terry was a great man and a good friend.

Sorry for rambling off the point of the thread. Us old farts do that ya know.

PLEASE show up at Ocala... i have something for you!!!! i bought it in the gun shop! it wont hurt toooooooooooo bad.......
it isnt anything personal against Danica. if they had an all woman league and danica was in it, i MIGHT want her to win. In Nascar and IRL i want the drivers to reek of testosterone! its just my opinion. Just what i like. doesnt mean i dont respect your opinion... oh crap!!! I dont!!! lol
luv ya anyways you old battle ax!

Carol, I am employed by Ocala Speedway. You have to get by me to get into the pits. So play fair, or I won't open the gate enough.......LOL
OSF should be there and offer a ride on his new scooter.

Says the mini van driving electric car racer.
now he rides a 150cc scooter

                        he's a biker now

I quit fishing because there was no one handing out money at the docks when i got back. Why did you quit racing?

XYY. you don't have to have an extra chromosome to get Carol to like you ... but it helps.

Any of the drivers with boobies.

you know, now that i've thought about this a little more, Paul Tracy might be heavy enough to have man boobs. i'm going to have to make him my top pick.

a fist fight, boobs and a costume to PO the Québécois, what more could you want? he'd probably wreck somebody too, and that would make Robin Miller happy.

Put me down for Davey Hamilton,AJ 4th or Sarah Fisher. Might even break out the Davey Hamilton supermodified shirt.

Was reading on Sarah's website (looking for a t-shirt) that the so-called sponsors haven't come through with the money. So she is racing on money out of her and her husband's own pocket and the generosity of fans. To make a donation you can send money to:
