I can remember back in the late 80's Desoto took the street stock class an put them on take offs . Which meant you where not allowed to buy sticker tires . It worked well so they put the cowboy cadillacs on them. It helped the late model drivers out because the support class was buying the tires. And the street stock and truck guys cause you paid a fraction of the price of a new set. But those days are long gone. It's all about making that magic dollar these days for track owners because so many of them are in the tire and parts business now as well.

Now for the real truth. every time a track made a rule for a class to use take offs the tire sales whent up on new tires. the cost of new tires went down for the teams. they could sell there takeoffs for 25 % of the new cost.
The reason it stoped was the racers on the takeoffs would bitch that someone else was geting better takeoffs than they were.
The racer will cry his way out of every good deal they get.
