Was wondering who the Don was there were talking about. I can see this will be great idea and cost the racers more money. This is so far from what needs to be done but once again series promoters are out forthem selves not the racers anymore.

Crate Modfieds Desoto Super Speedway In 09

Sounds like the same issue with Super Lates..
In my opinion...requireing a crate motor only will get very few cars. Who wants to pull out what they already have and sepend $ on a new engine to run 1 track? If you can find a way to "equalize" the crate cars and open motor cars that's the best shot...whether it's with a chip or a gear rule or somethin that will get your more cars.
If you look at "at the track" operating costs right now for OWM...it's practically the same as a Super Late Model. Entry fee is a little cheaper but fuels is the same, crew entry is the same, slab is the same...and tires are a little cheaper (I think) but you race for considerably less that a Super. And if you wann be competetive you have to buy tires every race...cause everybody else is! I've never run on a tire that you could run more than one night and be competetive but if that can be done that would appear to be the biggest $ saver for the OWM.
It always seems to come down to not having schedule conflicts with other tracks or rule differences between tracks. If I had a car that I could take to any track in the state and didn't have to afford to race every weekend to be able to go to the other tracks and not miss other races/points...it'd be alot easier to get a bigger field of cars. Instead of racing every other week for pennies run 1 big race a month for more $ to win and more starting $ I'd bet you'd see a bigger field...as long as the cars/rules are equal. The ultimate dilemna lol.

It must be me, cause I just don't get it.
Every week the flagger goes around asking what the track can do to get the cars back, every week the drivers talk. Every week the owner wants answers, every week the drivers talk. Yet you never go the dirrection the drivers suggest and you go off on another spending idea. What happened to this ASA thing, since the first week we have heard and seen nothing of them. Many have said it, up north is doing it, harder tires level out the motors and save drivers money, yes the track will not sell as many but you may end up with more than the 5 cars for 100 laps cut to 35 laps and one guy kickin there butts.
please john listen to the racers, they are trying to help!!!!!!

Actually the tire that we are running up here gets faster after the first week. Not by much, but it kind of discourages you from buying new tires every week. Like i have said time and time again, I am getting 6 weeks on right side tires. Talk about saving the racer some money. With hard tires it will equalize the disparity in motor combinations so everyone is on the same playing field, whether you have 30k in the motor or 4k in the motor. I can post winner circle pictures where you can see all the marks on the tires from qualifying. It all comes down to the tires. And it will take one track owner or promoter to give up the little amount they do make on tires to get more cars out. You wont have people complaining, "I cant run there, my engines not legal", or "I dont think we should weigh more because the motor is larger". What you will hear people complain about is "i cant win by putting more money in the car, thats how you fix everything", cause it wont. GET HARD TIRES ON THE CARS!!!!! That will bring out more cars which makes for a more exciting show which brings in more fans. More fans to buy pepsi, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn....... which means you will make the money back that you lost on the tire sales. Plus, less overhead with having to keep tires in stock. Our tire guy up here has a 20' trailer for mods, street stock late models and compacts tires and theres always enough tires.

The thing about John is, he doesn't use Goodyears. And has lost drivers because of that dumb idea also.Originally posted by calres22 View PostI can not stress this enough. If you go with a hard treaded tire, you do not need motor rules. What happens when you have motor rules is you have guys looking to circumvent them and do what it takes to get the least bit of advantage. These are the tires we run up here if you are interested. Mods: Goodyear D2562, D2563, D2663 and D2462. Call your tire supplier and see if you can get a set in. I bet you could find someone who would be willing to test them for you.

I'm with Skip. Not an expert on this stuff but it makes sense to me that a rock hard, grooved tire, EXACTLY like the Superstocks run, would make the series more affordable and you have a market for tires if you like to get new ones every two weeks, because the Superstock guys need a place for cheaper tires.

As Originally Intended
I have always said the hard tire is the way to go. Why not go back to the motor claim rule also. There was a time at Jax raceways when they had 20 to 25 cars. They ran the G60 and a $325 motor claim. I do agree the motor claim should be no more than $800 max and no swap. But at the very least go to a hard tire. I cant afford a $4000 motor. I have enough parts to build a couple of good claimer motors

We completely agree witht the hard treaded tire. Never have we considered a slick tire 8" or 10". Treaded tires are the most cost effective option for the racers. We are still working our way through motor packages. We are working hard to see this happen due to the intest we have seen at Columbia. You can educate the ignorant......but you cant fix stupid

I didn't say their were stupid. I just said that John hasn't allowed Goodyears at his track for a few years. I wish he would go back to them for all his classes.Originally posted by modracer22 View PostI'm sorry but don't see the hard tire being stupid Rick it's a good way to save the racer money.

Tim why are you working through motor packages leave everything alone and put hard tires on. I sorry but I talked to all the modified drivers at Orlando last night not that there was alot but anyways none of them said we need motor rules or a motor package all said they were in favor of the treaded tire would save a great deal of money to the racer without costing us more money with a motor package. I was also stoped by guys that had mods sitting and they also where pumped up by the treaded tire. You do what you want to do and I'll keep pushing no change just a treaded tire so the current modified guys don't have to spend anymore money. I have raced on them and alot of motor will not do you any good. As fare a motor package who going to tech them as I've never seen a spec motor tech at the track and by that mean really tech not just carb checked.

I won last night on 5 week old treaded tires. Hopefully the tracks in florida will realize what is needed to make the classes more cost efficient and competitive for the racers and more exciting for the fans. C'mon owners, the drivers are asking for it and the fans are needing it. Get the hard treaded tires on the cars ASAP.

The only problem with switching to the treaded tires is that it makes sence, therefore I am not holding my breath.
It would be the easiest, most logical way for the owners and racers to get somewhat of a grasp on the high costs of this sport and potentially solve other issues. Like I said in another post, there is always a bottom 15% of spenders and a top 15% of spenders - it seems that rules debates always focus on those two areas instead of the 70% majority in the middle.

Once track owners get out of the Tire and Fuel buisness things will change until then they will sell what makes them the money... AND you can forget passing on the savings to you the racer.... BOTTOM LINE!!!Originally posted by pintodave View PostThe only problem with switching to the treaded tires is that it makes sence, therefore I am not holding my breath.

They talk a good game but when you corner them with a question they will duck and run like running down a street in Iraq!!!Last edited by eagletai; 05-18-2008, 10:10 PM.
