any unsealed crate motor will have to run a 2 barrel carb and add 100 lbs ? so anyone can cheat up their 602 and replace the seal bolts and its ok to run ? why not let everyone race and tech em like any motor ? you would think the tech man would be glad the seal bolts are out as it will save a couple hours teardown time searching for a welder . right Patrick ? lol !

I have alway's said, sealed or unsealed they need to be torn down......... If the track's can afford the tech tool's to tech them without tearing them down then great, but if you don't have the equipment tear them down.

I have spoken with Rex about the no seal add weight and run a two barrel rule, I personnally think it's a cop out. Why run off car's with unsealed crate motors that could and probably would help support this race with a rule that punishes them to that extreme. It doesn't affect me either way, my motor is still factory sealed, but I want all the nonsealed car's to be there also, but mark my word's "they will not be with this rules package with the crates" end QUOTE..........

My feelings have always been check everything you can from the outside, if there are then question's scatter the motor all over the pit area...

Either your right or your wrong, and we all know I've been on both end's of a track tear down, but it has to be done.

And by the way no, at this point the rearend is towed out 1 and 3/4s of an inch, I have a plan and am looking for a little tire money, if I can get it close to straight for really cheap and can find enough money for a right rear tire, I'll be there. Unless we have so much fun on our three day Snowball Derby trip that I dont feel like finishing the car.

Showtime's Rules for Sportsman have recently been posted on www.showtimespeedway.us . I think they are the same as Citrus rules except that there is a 100lb weight penalty for using the GM 602 crate motor.

The rule package we created for this race was an attempt to get all cars from all tracks to be able to race with minimal changes. Me personally, I think putting a 2bbl and 100lbs is a little over board on unsealed motors. I have raced with those motors all year and have done fine against them. But that is the track rules and they are not changing that for 1 race. Reason being, they made all of there locals pay to have there unsealed motors checked and re-sealed and it simply wouldn't be fair to change that rule to let and extra car or 2 come race. I am sure if there is a series, they will look into it and do what they feel is best for all racers. But as some of you have said, if you have a car and want a series just show up and support this race. Worry about series rules when we get one.

First let me say I'm not a motor man, but I can't see why it is so hard to check for a legal crate motor. If a motor guy can educate me I will appreciate it. If you pump motor for cu. in, check for stock vacuum from engine supplier, check compression and valve lift, where can they be cheated up?? If the car claims crate and runs a 650 carb then it has to pass the stock rules for that motor, if a car adds 100 # and a two barrel carb, don't even check the motor. We ran this at Mansfield years ago and the built motors and the crates ran together until the cheaters starterd to show up. They start checking motors and didn't take long for them to find the cheaters

Why do the cars have to be so heavy to begin with? 3000 lbs was fine 15 yrs ago when these cars all had stock fire walls and floor pans... The majority now are either purpose built or retired limited late models. Most guys have at least 300lbs bolted to their cars and if they dont it could easily be done with a saws-all... Tires, brakes, axles, crash damage would all benefit from lightening these cars up.

As far as Crates adding weight, don't they kinda gotta be treated as an open motor if the seals are gone and someones been into them? I've heard more than just one cranking far more rpms than what stock valve train would handle...

Mike, I am a fat guy with a 1992 or 93 chassis that is heavy, I have about 130 pounds of lead on my car at 2900 pound's. Sorry we can't all afford newer state of the art car's. There are several old stock floorpan and firewall cars that can still compete, "just ask Chad Pierce" at 3000 pounds. 2900 pounds is just too light, I have every light weight recipricating part you can buy, and because of my weight and a heavy chassis it is a struggle, 3000 pounds is what this class should be.

Patrick I see what your saying. My chassis is an old one too... Its overslung AND underslung lol .. But if you have "every light weight recipricating part you can buy" you have already spent far more money than what torching and welding would cost to lighten your chassis up...

Taking 100 or 200lbs off these cars would save money in a lot of other areas. Mainly tires.. just my opinion and I'm sure its in the minority but I will still continue to race this class either way...

I'll be on vacation for this race but I hope its a good turn out and a great race. Good Luck to all.

I'm hoping we can all have some good constructive conversation at auburndale next weekend and come up with an official set of rules. Is everyone on this thread planning to attend?

Everyone talking about motors, has anybody decided what tire they will run? I know a lot of people don't care how it was done up north, but sorry that is where I'm from and think some ideas are good ones. I see here in Fla. all the promotors want to be tires salesman, so they put the racer on a softer tire so it wears out faster, maybe last a race or two and to be competitive the racer has to buy more. Well at the same time the big cheated up motor can hook up the HP with the soft tire, Now my thought for a new series, save the racer a lot of money and save yourself a lot of aggrevation trying to tech all the motors over and over, make the series tire a hard one, they will last 6, 7, maybe 8 or 9 races and not lose a tenth second( proven fact). save the racer a lot of money and even the playing field, because you can't hook up all that HP of the big motor, in turn makes the motors a little less important, especially on the short tracks. Whats your opinion?????????

I agree with you 100% Chassis Dude. A harder tire would help save the racer money by lasting longer and evening up the motor deal. Problem is that we finally have every Sportsman in the state on the same tire (Hoosier 8" grooved 650's and 450's). Trying to get every track to change would be a tough sell for 2013 now that we are in December. We are probably stuck for at least 2013 on these tires. They have tremendous grip but they just don't last very long and you are probably looking at having to buy 4 for each 50 lap series race if you want a shot at the win. I'd like to see the class on a hard as nails 8" slick like the Hoosier 980 or F75. They would last AND even up the motor deal while still having the grip of a slick. I think that's just wishful thinking though. I agree on one thing though, if you want to see this Sportsman series become a reality in 2013 then at least show up for the Aurburndale race and make your voice heard (respectfully )
