Then it needs to be called something other then a Pro Late Model Series, if it has a spec model it is not a pro late. It confusses the fans and racers from out of state. Just my opinion.

I agree with Rob they need to call it something else . I dont think it should be both . I have built a car and have not bought a motor yet . just because I am trying to figure out whats going to work best crate motor or spec there are pros and cons to both .

It needs to be crate motors only...I don't understand why New Smyrna always gives into a couple of guys that are close with the track over making a solid rule that is good for the series. They said at the beginning of the year that they would have to switch to a crate motor after this year, then they say the rumors are false that you can't run them. Stick to your gut, you will get more cars if it is a fair class, not some cheated up spec motor where the fast qualifier is almost a half second faster than everyone else and nobody says anything. What is the downside to making it a crate only class, I don't get the call.

yea and these guys only show up for the big races they dont support the track weekly. I thought I read that also in the rule book at one time. about in 2013 going to all pro late rules . thats ok going to still go with crate motor and just will not race it here will just go north . you would think after seeing how many people are running crate motors in the emod class , sportmans and super stock they would get it .

I read that as well, thats what I was referring to but now I can't find it. I swear it was announced on this site and the NSS site that they would be going to crates only at the end of this season so the guys with the LLM spec motors would have one year to make the change. I can't find it on here now.

Unless something changed that I'm not aware of, the motor that won the pro late race at the Gov Cup was a crate motor. What's the problem? Also both types of motors are allowed north of here as well. If not, there is a bigger problem than the argument trying to be made in this thread.

Tim where did you read that the spec motor is allowed up north under the prolate rules I would like to print out. because thats the reason I dont want to buy a spec motor and then cant go to other tracks out of the state thanks.

I may be assuming too much. I would contact Ricky Brooks after this weekend settles down and speak with him about it. Let us know what the answer is. Thanks

Would somebody tell me what is called a crate and what is called a spec. motor, Looked at a engine builders site and they had crates at like 400 to 415 HP ( ford and chevy) and what they called equalizer crates with like 475 to 495 HP. Like in the snowball derby, what motor does the snowflake car and the snowball car have to run. I'm from Ohio and the late models I owned all had like 13 to 1 , aluminum head 550 to 575 HP. Please explain to me these motors, spec and crate. Thanks

Below is straight off the five flags web site...where does it say you can run a limited spec motor? Looks like a Chevy 604 or a Ford 347/425LM to me, maybe I am missing something.

                            Engines
                            1. GM # 88958604 with the following updates, 1.6 rocker rocker arms, Valve Spring Part # 12586484 from Phil Harper,
Comp Cam valve springs #941-16, Champ oil pan # CP106LTRB and Balancer.
                            2. Ford # M06007-D347-SR with 1.5 rockers.
                            3. McGunegill Ford # ASA 425LM with 1.5 rockers.
All sealing bolts must remain as installed from factory. Removal of sealing bolts will result in
                            disqualification.

Would someone please tell me what a spec motor is or where I can look it up. I know what a fatory crate motor is and what we called a open motor which has very few rules. I know the lower divisions have special rules on heads, cam, valves, intake, carb but I don't know what they call a spec motor.
