Sadly you are probably not alone in your opinion. I do hope you are alone or in a significant minority as it reates to your lack of knowledge or compassion for the global impact of a concussion on a persons physical and mental abilities in the aftermath. This was not a simple ringing of his bell he was fortunate to survive. The medical community is just beginning to try to fully understand what is happening and how to deal with it. The NFL lawsuits will finally give this issue financial legs and that is the real driving force behind most scientific endeavors.
The brain is composed of many different areas that control mental and physical bodily functions. Nadeau's doctor report did not confirm his depression was caused by his injury. Many top level athletes that get injuried or age go through depression when their lifestyle changes. Depression is not always the result of a concussion. I've bumped my head many times, damn, now I get it.

Does it really matter what caused the depression? It's still an illness and can be very serious and debilitating. You don't just shake it off. I'm sure you don't understand. You would if you had it or had someone very close to you that did.

Oh but I do understand. I can guarantee you I have a great deal of insight in this story and some inside information I won't share.
Nadeau is drowning in self-pity. It's obvious if you read his quotes and have followed the story from the day he crashed. I listened to what was said on here by each of you and took today to research head injuries and Nadeau's history after the crash. What I found is a guy that can't handle being an average guy. He can't regress and get a job like the rest of us because it tears him apart mentally to be considered another guy. That in itself should explain why I say he is drowning in self pity. He was cleared to race, but could not and still can not find a ride. This exaggerates the self pity. He has been medicated for his depression, anti depression medication don't work on self-pity, it does work on clinical depression. Yes I understand clinical depression. I have a family member that went through hard times, lost his job as a CEO of a large company, went through a divorce, and lost everything. He was diagnosed with clinical depression, prescribed Prozac, and eventually got his life back together. He's working his way back up the chain in a company in North Carolina. I tell you this story so you will believe me when I say I have first hand experience with clinical depression.
Nadeau needs to keep the good memories of the past, be proud of his accomplishments, support his family, and get a freaking job like the rest of us.
If Nadeau was a CEO, Rap star, or famous actor you people would have a different outlook and opinion about this story. You are all BLINDED to the facts because you suffer from the same addiction and passion-RACING
A famous rap star was on tour and had a car accident late one night after a concert. He was replaced by a younger artist while he was recovering. After his recovery he could not find a record label to support his music. It's been 10 years since he worked in music or held a job. Every time he went into a studio, he felt that nobody thought of him as a superstar any longer. He now stays home alot and plays video games and sings karaoke all day.
How do you feel about this guys self-pity ? Sure they label it depression, but should we feel bad for him after 10 years of doing nothing positive with his life ?
It has been proven that lifestyle changes can reverse depression. How long do we call it depression ? Does it ever become self pity ?
"It makes you think: Why am I still here? I don't know, but maybe it's to start this foundation. I've had multiple head injuries and I can still put the word out. I'm going to take this and run with it. There's a purpose in life, and obviously I had a purpose to raise my family and drive race cars. Now I have a new purpose. I could feel sorry for myself, but what good will that do?"
I'm getting over defending my opinion. It's my opinion from my study of the facts and his quotes from his interviews after the accident. I agree that depression is serious and usually treatable with a compliant patient. I do not agree the Nadeau's depression or self pity is a result of his physical injuries but actually due to his lifestyle change. All he knew from a young age was racing and when he lost that, he lost his drive to do anything else. This is very common in athletes, actors, and high level business people when their lifestyle changes for whatever reason and they become an average person.
If anyone is interested in doing your own research instead of trying to change my opinion, try researching the differences of a head injury and repeated concussions. Also read the jayski site that has a great timeline of interviews with Nadeau. I think if you are educated enough to research the facts, you will probably agree that Nadeau is depressed due to self pity.
I'm not here to educate people that will not put forth the effort to form a researched opinion.
Now something that is important to me, gooooo Danica goooo !
My researched opinion is that you are being what those of us without head injuries or brain trauma might refer to as a douche bag w respect to Jerry. He may be a self invoked pity party, but do you see him coming on here and referring to you as a very proud but accomplishment lacking message board filler?
Kinda ironic as you guys sound like two long lost puzzle pieces that would go together - him having succeeded and being sad that it was lost and you having not succeeded and being amazingly proud.
LOL, well said Bubba.
EZ, if you had done your research you would know the feelings he's experiencing, what you call pity, is a symptom of the depression. The depression isn't caused by his emotions at this time. He has absolutely no control over it. That's what the medication is for, as well as other treatments, such as therapy, ECT's, cognitive behavior treatments, etc., which I assume he is getting. Now I'm not saying his inability to return to racing didn't precipitate the depression, because it probably did. As you said, people who have a mid-life crisis or life changing event often suffer from depression. However, that is usually a temporary depression and is usually treated successfully. However, it's apparent it wasn't cured in his case and now he has no control over it. 20 to 40 percent of people with long term depression are not treated successfully. Life can be an agonizing hell for them and it's exacerbated by people who don't understand the illness.
Oh bubba, I would love to compare checkbook balances and life accomplishments with you. You would loose miserably. Now go back to your trailer and try to finish reading "go dog go". I know the words are big but if you try hard and ask questions, maybe you will understand the story.
I've got to go into the office today for a board meeting, I'll get there in my Cadillac. Baahahahaha. Right back at ya, toothless wonder.

Thanks doctor winger for the insight. You probably are the most educated guy here, but you need to finish your degree before treating patients.
OMG ! I did a little research on my new adversary Bubba the Obama supporter. You are the same guy that called many people on here idiots back in 2009 because they were speaking out against Obama. You took a good beating from the masses on that one. How's Obama working out for you now ? Ridicule me all you want, your problem is way obvious. Open anus, insert head ! Do you still support Obama or have you learned over time, that you are wrong on that one too ?
