  • Doug Heveron At Speedworld

Doug was there 5/3 with Don Heckman preparing for the Little 500 in Anderson, IN... They will be one of a few teams heading north for the race the night before the Indy 500... Among them will also be Sonny Hartley who plans to test at Speedworld next week... Best of luck to all the guys and my old friends Heckman and Hartley... Hope they have plenty of oxygen at the track!! Photos courtesy of Jimmy Jeep...

This is "supposed" to be Doug's last race as a driver, and then retire. I'll bet a 6-pack of Old Styles that he'll show up behind the wheel again soon.

I sure hope he does, as he has been a major talent in everything he's ever driven. It would be a shame to never get the chance to see him race again.

Nascar Modifieds, Oswego Super Modifieds (winged & non-winged), Sprint cars, Silver Crown cars, Busch Grand Nationals, Winston Cup cars and Indy cars... probably a Midget show or 2... the man has done it all, and been a winner at nearly every level.

But the ONE thing I don't ever recall him doing? Racing on DIRT! I think someone in the UDLMS Series oughta give him a try!

There was a time when some supermodifieds use to race with the sprints at Syracuse during Super DIRT Week. Did Doug run there? It was so long ago I can't remember.

I was at one of those shows, and he wasn't in that one. I'll check some old Gater Racing News to see if he was at any of the others. I think there were 3 total.

That was actually a cool concept. The Supers would smoke by the Sprints on the straights, and the Sprints would fly past in the turns. The difference in overall height and wing width was pretty drastic also. Each group thought the other was the "dangerous" one.
