  • May 17 - Desoto Super Speedway - 72 yo to race with Desoto Champ Kart Series

The "Thundering Herd" of the Desoto Champ Kart Series will make it's third appearance of 2008 at Desoto Super Speedway in Bradenton, on Saturday night, May 17. Also competing on May 17 are the AACS Super Late Models, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Bombers, Trucks, Magic 4's and Outlaw Modifieds!

This event will be Race #2 of the highly-competitive 2nd Annual Florida Triple Crown Series. This is a four race series, at four different tracks, with one drop allowed (Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Feb. 9; Desoto Super Speedway on May 17; Citrus County Speedway on July 26; Auburndale Speedway on Nov. 15). Over 25 champ kart teams have pre-entered for this event, from all across the state.

This event will feature a 72 year old driver, Tom Wofford from Melbourne, Florida! Tom first began racing cars in the early 1960's at the old Eau Gallie Speedway. Due to a bout with polio as a child, Tom has adapted a hand throttle to use on his champ kart! Tom's full story is posted at the following site:

The series would like to welcome any interested or curious folks to come into the pit area, to meet our drivers and crews. This series has some of the friendliest racers and crew anywhere.

Competition:In the last eleven series events, NINE different winners have triumphed!

Stars: Think this is just a "go kart" series....?? Already this season, 2007 TBARA Sprint Car Series champion Troy Decaire has participated once (finishing second), along with FASCAR Truck driver Barry Bartlett (finished seventh). Late Model and Open Wheel Modified Driver Dustin Chisholm is also expected to make his 2008 debut with the series in the coming weeks. Both Troy Decaire and Dustin Chisholm have indicated that they will enter this event, if their schedules permit.

The Desoto Champ Kart Series - A little different.... where racing is fun again!
