Was just reading that they have over 600 drivers participating this year. Heard on Sirius from a trucker that he went by at 4 am and they were still running - found out later that they finished around 6am that night.

Holy hell that is a lot of cars - maybe (dare I say) too many?

Anybody from here ever been?

Believe it or not, that car count is way down from what they had a few years ago. The number was almost 1000 cars. Promoter Bob Lawson stated that his goal was to, just once, hit the 1000 number. Don't know if he ever got there, but I'm thinking it was something like 970 one year.

I know it can get hectic with 80 modifieds during speedweeks - cant imagine those types of numbers.

They don't mess around there. They throw caution flags only when "really" needed, and if your car ain't moving by then, you ain't racing anymore. ANY stopped car gets the boot.... no arguing, no jockeying to get the spot back YOU think you deserved. You get sent packing.

It really creates respectful racing, and a smoother show than you'd think. Face it, with 600 racecars, you think they're worried if you don't like the rule? It is applied to everyone, no matter your position, your circumstances, or who you are... if you ain't moving when the yellow comes out, your sent packing for the night.

It's amazing how well a battery and starter works on a spun out car, when they know this rule is in place.

I heard yesterday that they were up to over 800 this year - the other 600+ number was from the week prior to the event. With all the events I have seen and heard about, this one was off my radar - might need to find a reason to be in Iowa next year.

Bucket List race for me. It must be an incredible sight to pull into there.

What's amazing to me, is that this race, as gigantic as it is, doesn't really pay squat to win. Nobody is there looking for a big check... there aren't any. But it is THE happening in the Midwest, and they come just to be a part of it.

It's Woodstock with race cars....!
