rumor has it???
Okay so rumor has it. Sunshine speedway was bought by Tony Stewart but according to the Andretti Green team they were interested in it too but no word as of what is going to happen. At the St. Pete Grand Prix we were in the Penske paddock and that was the rumor. More to follow-as I close??

Sunshine Speedway Re-opening ?
I hope no one jumps on the offer of five (5) years of advanced tickets for half price (paid in advance). If so, please contact me (OSF) because I will sell you LIFE TIME tickets for a mere $2,000.00 (paid in advance - cash in small bills please).
I really hate to face the fact that Sunshine Speedway is what it is... a testing site for FDOT/Toll Collection Division (except the Drag Strip).
Sure wish Tony S. or someone could pull the magic rabbit out of a hat and make something happen there, but every couple of years... the rumors come and go.

Thank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:

My guess would be Sand Mountain. It's a dirt track that is already built, but never had permits to open for stock car events. Therefore, if it's already there, but never actually opened, it would be "new".
I think the quotation marks are the clue here.
As for the Sunshine theories.... it's all a big dream. Wake up cause it ain't happenin'. Fat chance that something the government owns ever being turned back into a racetrack.

They tried to lease Sunshine as a racetrack after the expansion did not go as they wanted. The problem was they had already removed the stands and some other items and anyone who wanted to lease it would have had to replace them at there cost. Last I heard it was leased as test track for a company that developed pay pass toll equipment.Originally posted by Frasson118 View PostMy guess would be Sand Mountain. The few things that track is missing could be replaced fairly easily. Whoever leased the track would not have any problems with volenteers (sic). I would give anything to have that little bullring back. There was a clause in the contract that the facility could not be run as a racetrack for a certain amount of time per Bonny and Frank Hill, hopefully that time is coming to an end.

I'll take a stab at it...I think the "new" dirt track is the small micro sprint / atv track being built behind Ocala Speedway pit area. The outline of the track has been laid out. Needs clay, fence, stands & racers.
How come everybody forgot Dale Jr. wanted in on some of the action too?

Jerry I hope you are right about Sand Mountain. I ran a practice there a few years ago. Where ever this track is...I hope they run sprint cars! We need some more dirt tracks for sprint cars that are run correct. Keep us updated on this area.sigpicTurn right to go left...Racing as it was meant to be!

I'm thinking this is an asphalt track that will convert to dirt... Off topic, but is the St. Augustine Speedway facility still there?Read the newest Running Wide Open racing blog at http://www.joevanhoose.com/.
