  • Mid-week shows

Midvale Speedway up here in Ohio hosted a "4th of July" Main Event Racing Series (outlaw-style Super Late Models) last night (Tuesday) with a 100-lapper, plus a 50-lapper for their E-Mods, and the regular divisions. Standing-room-only crowd, said it was their biggest crowd in over 20 years at the track.

Huntsville Speedway hosted a Southern Superstars 100-lapper last night as well, with a HUGE crowd AND great car counts in all divisions.

Let's see if Sunsh....Showtime can bring it in.

It was the same thing at Waynesfield with the sprints...Standing room only... heard 46 360's and 36 wingless cars and 52 UMP mods

Grandview Speedway in PA. had a standing room only crowd also last night. There were so many people they started letting people watch from the infield.

Yup... mid-week shows won't work in Fla. Just don't tell that to 4-5000 people and nearly 100'racers that showed up in St Pete tonight.... they haven't heard that line of bullshit yet, and please don't ever tell them.

LOL, Damn Yankee, you must be drunk. You know it just won't work in Florida. You freaking northerners come down here and think you know it all. Why don't you go back where you belong and take that damn track with you. They'll never make a go of it doing that crap. Just going to be another statistic on the list of Florida tracks that are closed.

BTW, for those of you that don't know me, that's a sarcastic reply to Frasson. Just want to state that in case his post gets windexed for some reason. I've already been accused of arguing with myself when others have been banned from facebook.

Winger and ALL my northern'r friends on here....I hear your pain....Born and raised here in Jacksonville and it has always been just this way other then a few promoters that came down from up north and leased the race tracks...as in the 80's Wed.night MASON DIXON CHALLENGE SERIES was pinned North vs. South....Lake City (North Fl.) Speedway was field BEYOND capacity. I have been one of the very fortunate one in northern Florida to want to race up north and when I could afford to I went to race or to watch. Guess that is why I fell in love with non wing sprint cars....So many promoters think OUTSIDE the box up north and this is one of the reasons BRP is doing so well, THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX....oh hell wait a min. Todd is from Warsaw Ind. no wonder uh! North Florida is #2 on the list but then WAIT...Phil is from up state NY....It can be done again and from my understanding that is way Marion County is doing a Summer Break, 2 hottest months of the year and to race in the winter as in ALL of Jan.

Hope to see all my friends on here soon at the track when I get back from Indiana for Sprint week...Wayne Davis

Midweek show worked well in Georgia last night, too. Gresham Motorsports Park (fmr. Peach State Speedway) held its signature race, the World Crown 300. Packed grandstands and 30 cars in the field, which is slightly better than par for them.

The one thing with the midweek show is you have to be done early. Start at 7:30 and drop the last checkered flag at 10. Then again, that's as long as any Saturday night program needs to be anyway.

Very true statements in all respects. A three hour show that moves along at a rapid pace with little or no down time. You can run your special shows on a weeknight with one other class. No need for any more. If the special shows were run during the week, there could be more cars running these special shows without worrying about losing home track points, like they do now if they make a decision to race at another track rather than their regular Saturday night venue. But I digress, this has all been said before.

Jerry it was a good croud but the parking lot they were using and the groung they had for standing room would only hold 2200. when they used all the parking there Dan said it hat a max croud was 3200 and that was with 15 row stands DA!!
I though the show was good. not timley but good. the promoter told us in the pits that if we didnt like the way he was dooing it he would throwed us out..We were not at inverness he said on the mike. He still needs to work on his people skilles. All of the rest of the officals were great.
The statment was that mid week shows dont work unless its the forth on Wed.(and it was)
That is when we had a sell out croud for a Super race at inverness on wed the 4th in the 80s.
PGS did some sun for 3 weeks then stoped?? Alburndale did sun races and stoped and all the new track promoters have tryed it and they all stoped ???? guess they made to much money..
Yea prove me wrong lets go back next week on wed not the 4th.. come on showtime Jerry said he would go in for half .

Dont take it to hard and i would have feed you if you would have come down..

Mid week shows will work anywhere as long as it is a unique show. Last nights show would have worked almosy any day at any time. This was a race track that closed when it was still profitable. Everybody wanted in on last nights bash. Now answer this, what night do you think they will run? Saturday would be my answer.

when they sold the track it was not dooing good. the car counts were down and there wernt many fans.
I rember the last night there was packed because they knew that was the last night . The promoters wike came on the mike and said if you would have come like this we would not have sold.
                        any else rember that.
Yes rusty the C Har twas held mid week for 3 years on the forth of july week. It was good but never profitable.

Because they were smart and installed lights so the fans wouldn't fry like TUNA out in the sunshine. Plus, during the week, not many folks can leave their seats at 11:00, get out of the parking lot by 12:30, drive home, and still make it to work the next AM. Those daytime, on the 4th races were just BRUTAL on the fans. We were always in the infield, but couldn't even imagine what those folks in the stands were going through.

Thanks Jerry for the insite to why short tracks dont race mid week. Fans have to go to work and so forth and so on and dont buy tickets . 4th is a no work day and if it is wed they dont have anything to do and dont get enough days off to go out of town..
Local short track racing fits that demo..

rost likr a TUNA ...cook the BONES out of them
